UNLV2001

New Mexico at UNLV

Another note: while the conference is still butt overall, it's much better than last year.

Last year MW had a .511 winning percentage (16th among conferences), this year it's .565 (13th), and that's with a tougher strength of schedule (10th last year and 7th this year).

Also the SRS was 10th last year and 9th this year.

Conference RPI is 10th this year so far (0.522, just behind the WCC), but was a PUTRID 15th last year (behind powerhouses like the Southern, Ivy League, and MAC).

Overall, the conference has a long way to go to return to its standing in the early 2010's, when it was a perennial top 5 basketball conference, but making progress at least.

It doesn't matter if it's the "third lowest of all time", it's still a significant advantage.  That tweet proves my point.

Idiotic statement.  The Big Ten has a home winning percentage of 85% in conference play.  That’s significant.

By that logic, UNM's 12-0 home vs. 2-4 road splits are VERY significant, champ.

No.  Half of New Mexico’s wins are against sub 200 teams in KenPom.  Home court had very little to do with that.

Fair enough, but in MW conference play they are 3-0 at home, and 1-3 on the road (only win vs. pathetic Wyoming) in conference.  That's a pretty significant home-road split.

That’s one team.  I’m talking averages.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Sophomore guard Marvin Coleman recorded UNLV's first triple-double in 20 years and sophomore guard Bryce Hamilton scored more points in a game than any other Runnin' Rebel in the last four seasons as the UNLV men's basketball team defeated New Mexico 99-78 Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The win kept UNLV (11-9, 6-1) in sole possession of second place in the Mountain West and its 6-1 league start is its best in 12 years (2007-08). It also was UNLV's sixth straight home win, matching its longest such streak in five years (2014-15), its third straight victory overall and seventh in the last eight games.

Coleman's 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists marked first triple-double for a Runnin' Rebel since Mark Dickel accomplished the feat on Nov. 19, 1999 vs. Mississippi Valley State (17-10-12). It is also just the fifth triple-double in Mountain West history.

THERE IT IS‼️#UNLVMBB'S 1ST TRIPLE-DOUBLE IN 20 YEARS 🏀@mcolemannn22 has 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Last @TheRunninRebels player to have one: Mark Dickel in 1999 (17-10-12).

Coleman's is only the 5th in @MountainWest history!#BEaREBEL

Hamilton led five Runnin' Rebels in double-figure scoring with a career- and game-high 35 points on 14 of 19 from the field, which was the highest scoring game by a UNLV player since Ike Nwamu's 38 vs. Air Force on March 9, 2016.

New Mexico (15-5, 4-3) also had five players score in double figures, led by JaQuan Lyle's 20 points. Corey Manigault recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

TALE OF TWO HALVES: UNLV used a 9-0 run to close the first half and led 43-40 at the break. The Runnin' Rebels then outscored New Mexico by 18 points in the second half (56-38).

THE REBELS ARE RUNNING: Saturday marked UNLV's second straight game scoring in the 90s. After scoring a then-season-high 98 vs. San Jose State on Wednesday, the Runnin' Rebels bested that by a point with 99 vs. New Mexico.

50 PERCENT FROM THE FIELD: UNLV also shot over 50 percent from the field for the second straight game, making 50.7 percent vs. UNM. The Runnin' Rebels are now 6-0 on the season when making at least half of their shots.

To all #UNLVmbb fans that cheered loudly & wore black for today's big win over UNM at the @ThomasAndMack, all we can say is DUNK YOU! DUNK YOU VERY MUCH! #BEaREBEL 🙏🔴⚫️🔴⚫️

Probably need to asterisk this one. Missing starters in those three losses, makes the point impossible to support.

People here have gotten a bit swept up in the hope that TJO rights this ship. Theres a bit of over exaggeration of what the team is doing right now.

The team has some talent, basically no depth inside but its still good enough to beat what is one of the worst mw bottom 2/3 I think ive ever seen.

But for consistencies sake I will repeat. It does not matter how bad the conference is. UNLV is a national brand and should always dominate or at the very least compete at the top of this terrible conference. It is a travesty what has happened to this great program.

We all hope Totz is that dude that comes to Vegas and kills it. Hes showing plenty of signs that hes a serious candidate to turn this thing  around. But we will see what it looks like when its all his guys.
