Two UNLV games to be played at Sam Boyd next year?

Recommended Posts

The Stadium Authority has all power here and will make the final ruling. Raiders are can only pull this stunt in 2020, because as Rebelbacker already stated, only by 2021 is it inked in the contract that UNLV gets a guaranteed 6 home games at Allegiant. No ifs or buts. Only reason the Raiders are pulling this shit now is because they want the very first inaugural football game at the stadium to be a Raiders game and not a UNLV game.

Everyone's going to find any excuse to poke holes in this deal. UNLV will just keep counting the cash they got from the $65 million multimedia deal they got from Learfield-IMG, the $3 million/yr payout they get from the stadium authority to off-set the events not held at Sam Boyd, and all the luxury suite/ticket/concession revenue they will receive on game-day. UNLV is going to be more bankrolled by this deal than they ever have. (and by far more than any other athletic program in this conference)

That's why UNLV can afford to pay Arroyo and Otzelberger $1.5 million/yr salaries and @mugtang's broke school can only pay bargain barrel $500k/yr.  http://www.whatcoloristhefremontcannon.com/

+++++ em. In fact UNLV should start promoting the Cal game as the first football game in the new stadium. “UNLV Football opening Allegiant stadium on August 29th.”  That’ll piss off the dumb+++++ that is Bowl cut Davis.

If they want to start pulling this shit, unlv can schedule their allotted (I think it’s 2) nonfootball events on dates where the raiders are hosting concerts etc. Contest the dates to the stadium board, start raising a stink in the papers. Guarantee the Raiders don’t want to get off to a bad start with this community.

Plenty of avenues for UNLV to take.

Exactly what this is. Feeding the local beat that UNLV could be playing a couple games at SBS is horseshit.

The 2 games in dispute are scheduled in sept after the cal game on aug 29th.  The raiders want to keep those sept dates open for non-football events, i believe.  What i dont understand is how unlv confused this during the negotiations with the raiders.  It was clear in the contract that the only non-conference game allowed in the stadium for the first year is the Cal game.  It's very specific.

after seeing how the Raiders are treating UNLV and the Eagles treat Temple...I'm glad the Tigers and Grizzlies have the amicable relationship we do. The crew at FEF has got switching out courts, signage, apparel, etc down so well the Tigers can play at 12 noon and the Grizz can tip off at 7pm with no issues.

The Knights have fully embraced the UNLV hockey team, it would have been nice to see the same for football, but it is the Raiders, so that will never happen..it's a shame, too, it's not like there is a competition for fans, they could do a ton for UNLV.

This is a power trip, plain and simple.

I wish we got an expansion franchise instead of the Raiders.  They’re a shit show.

No NHL team would consider a barely existent college program to be any kind of competition, but football is different. Seattle and Phoenix (and, to an extent, Miami and Dallas-Ft. Worth) are really the only common markets that have seen shared success between both the NFL and D1 Football over the past thirty years.

Like it or not, the Raiders and the NFL could care less about UNLV Football's success.

here they kept on reminding folks that NBA (and NFL) teams can move but the UofM (like UNLV) could not so we should get a 'sweet heart' deal to make sure FedExForum always has a tenant. You would think Las Vegas would insist upon making sure their major investment pans out by having 2 happy teams playing there...not adversaries

I really don’t care if the Raiders care about UNLV football, I don’t expect them to anyway.

At the moment UNLV is ignoring the crying by the Raiders and keeping the games and dates at Allegiant.

Story is a nothingburger and only illustrates the Raiders butthurt of being coequal tenants.

I dont get how the Raiders are able to "host concerts" there and keep the money. The stadium is not owned by the Raiders, right?

Don't kid yourself. The Raiders hold all the cards when it comes to that stadium. They've got more leverage by far. When Davis tells Clark County and State officials to jump, Murren and Ruffin will tell them how high.

That is exactly what they want you to believe. There's a big difference between ownership and control. The "Stadium Authority" might own the stadium, but who controls them?

even if UNLV became a consistent 9-10 win football program it wouldn't be a threat to the Raiders as NFL and NCAA fan bases are totally different  animals. We learned that lesson too as the Grizz tend to attract more 'inner city' core Memphis citizens while most of the Tiger fans who can afford football/basketball season tickets live in the wealthy suburbs. That's why you see Memphis use '901' in our branding to appeal to the more affluent residents in Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, Lakeland, etc who are in the Memphis 901 area code but don't technically live in Memphis proper.

Right. Just like how Oakland officials jumped?  They already signed the deal and paid their portion of the stadium, there’s no cards to hold here. Stadium deal is already done.

They don’t own the stadium (more like a shareholder) and they aren’t going to force the Rebels to play in SBS next season. They can’t and don’t have that authority.

Again, it’s just whining by Oakland. It’s what they do best, and why they haven’t won a super bowl in like 40 years.

Oakland was no longer a willing playmate after decades of abuse. It's a totally new relationship with LV.

Don't kid yourself about who Gaming Inc. values more between UNLV Athletics and the NFL.

wow, Memphis makes their collegiate African american football players (who basically act as unpaid slaves for the NCAA) wear a COTTON BOLL on their head. That's f*cked up LOL.

More f-cked up is how much racism you read into all that. What's next, picketing the Cotton Bowl and stores that sell cotton products? Should injured black players refuse cotton wraps, dressings, appliques?

I've got an idea- let's ban every agricultural product that was ever raised through the use of ANY slave labor!
