Had the British and Carter administration backed Shah - a man that allowed western culture in the country - Iran would likely not be an issue that it is today.

And yes, it’s the lesser of two evils.

Umm...Carter did back the Shah. That's why they stormed and held the embassy.

Iranian students stormed and held US diplomats hostage because Carter (reluctantly) allowed Shah to receive Cancer treatment in the US for a little over a month.  Would have been a much shorter stay but there were complications from surgeries.

Shah received no assistance from the US during the domestic uprising that led to the Revolution.

That's because the Shah was dying. He never returned to Iran and the revolutionaries were upset at the US for what they saw as harboring the Shah. His reign was coming to an end with or without US support.

The US had no knowledge of Shah’s illness until tipped by the French, that didn’t happen until September of 1978 - four months before being overthrown and leaving Iran.

His reign yes, but had the US helped stabilize the country Iran would not be ruled by Islamic Extremists as it is today.

It's worth mentioning these are young university attending folks.

It is. I still found it astonishing. This regime is no joke and these people are well aware of the risks.

(Reuters) - After days of protests across Iran last month, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appeared impatient. Gathering his top security and government officials together, he issued an order: Do whatever it takes to stop them.

That order, confirmed by three sources close to the supreme leader’s inner circle and a fourth official, set in motion the bloodiest crackdown on protesters since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

About 1,500 people were killed during less than two weeks of unrest that started on Nov. 15. The toll, provided to Reuters by three Iranian interior ministry officials, included at least 17 teenagers and about 400 women as well as some members of the security forces and police.

The toll of 1,500 is significantly higher than figures from international human rights groups and the United States. A Dec. 16 report by Amnesty International said the death toll was at least 304. The U.S. State Department, in a statement to Reuters, said it estimates that many hundreds of Iranians were killed, and has seen reports that number could be over 1,000.

The figures provided to Reuters, said two of the Iranian officials who provided them, are based on information gathered from security forces, morgues, hospitals and coroner’s offices.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

Is Iran's technology so bad that they couldn't tell that what they thought was a "missile" originated in Tehran?

The SA-15 is a fairly modern mid range SAM system. Technology wasn’t the problem. This was a command and control phuck up.
