UNLV FB hires Marcus Arroyo as HC.

Not sure where UNLV is going to get the $$$ for this hire, much less $$ for a decent staff - Ticket sales are down in the two major revenue sports and don't think UNLV gets any $$ from the new stadium.

Best bet for UNLV is to hire someone from the NFL level or a retread who has coached or worked on some level at the next level.

An assistant, coordinator or HC. If they go with someone with only college experience, it should not be an assistant who is also a no name.

They do get money (3.5 million for ten years, and it could be more) and can make money off the suites they are allocated. Plenty of ways to make money in the new stadium.

That being said, I don’t see us paying a HC 2 million or more. Staffing budget has to be considered.

Stability and low expectations might be enough, but Texas is home for Harrell. I don’t see us getting him.

In any event, hope Morgan Scalley is the choice but I think it’ll be Arroyo.

Not sure how much UNLV really gets considering the Raiders control use of the stadium - even the openers for UNLV next season are in potential dispute - If UNLV gets booted from the Allegiant if the Raiders decide that's what they want - Seems that UNLV is at the mercy of the Raiders whims, and where or if that affects any UNLV revenue is a question

https://lvsportsbiz.com/2019/12/05/las-vegas-stadium-authority-consultant-raiders-unlv-stadium-use-deal-does-not-require-raiders-to-have-allegiant-stadium-available-for-rebels-home-games-on-sept-5-and-12/

The Raiders-UNLV joint-use stadium agreement does not require the Raiders to have their new Allegiant Stadium available for two UNLV football games on Sept. 5 and 12 in 2020, the stadium authority’s consultant said Thursday morning.

UNLV is scheduled to play Louisiana Tech on Sept. 5 and Arizona State on Sept. 12 as home games in Las Vegas. But those two games might have to be played at Sam Boyd Stadium in nine months because the stadium use deal between the Raiders and UNLV does not obligate the Raiders — which operate Allegiant Stadium — to have the new venue available for those two particular games, said Jeremy Aguero, the Las Vegas lawyer who is guiding the public stadium authority board on the stadium process.

But the Raiders are considering keeping early September open for potential big events to help celebrate the opening of the $2 billion stadium project. The NFL team says the 65,000-seat domed stadium is on schedule to be completed July 31, 2020. The Raiders are scheduled to play their first regular-season game at Allegiant Stadium after UNLV plays its third home game Sept. 12. UNLV Athletics Department spokesman Andy Grossman issued this statement Thursday, “It was our intention and continues to be, that our game at Sam Boyd Stadium on Nov. 23 was our last at the facility. There are a lot of details that we are still working through with the Raiders.

Here's some minimal details on UNLV's potential revenue stream from the stadium -- Which is counting on UNLV being able to sell the suites (iffy proposition) and any club level & non-premium seats - Can't see suite revenue being a big $$$ maker for UNLV unless they can get some MAJOR P5 opponents to come in for a couple of games every season.......the MWC isn't going to drive suite revenue nor will some lower end P5 opponents

According to the new draft of the joint-use agreement, UNLV will be allowed to sell as many as 70 percent of the anticipated luxury suites. The agreement will also allow UNLV to keep the revenue from those sales along with revenue from club level and non-premium seats.

It's a change from the first draft terms which gave the Raiders exclusive right to sell luxury suites and club seating for UNLV footballs games, while only giving UNLV a fraction of the revenue.

I'm just thinking a "name" someone might have heard of might be best in this situation............some unknown isn't going to get the local fan base to take notice..........the local fan base is already a small % of the local population and it's going to take more than some up and comer to get beyond the current limited fan base

It’ll generate enough revenue. The stadium feasibility study showed two things. There’s enough to support 50-60 luxury suites and they are being sold at 22k-40k a pop, with vip club seats at 2000-2500 a pop.

The other thing is, the #1 reason why people didn’t attend UNLV football games was because it was too far. Now that the new stadium is centrally located and much closer to UNLV/Strip,

I think you’ll see more people at the games. Who UNLV opponents were, wasn’t much of a factor.

I would agree that a HC with experience and NFL/P5 ties would be optimal but don’t think UNLV will pay the going rate for a Jay Gruden, Koetter, Mora etc, PLUS paying for staffing.

They would have hired one of those guys by now. I think DRF is waiting on the P12 championship to be over or Jay Hill to be done with FCS playoffs. Although Hill could be coaching a couple more weeks.

Still don't see people ponying up big $$ to see UNLV play MWC teams an G5 non-conference teams.......sales for suites might be good for a big time P5 when they travel & hotels buy up suites as perks for the opponents VIP's & big spenders. Other than that I don't see suites selling much if at all

The other thing is, the #1 reason why people didn’t attend UNLV football games was because it was too far. Now that the new stadium is centrally located and much closer to UNLV/Strip, "the too far" thing has been a mainstay since the stadium was built in the 1970's when it actually was far out from most of the developed town. Since the mid 1990's SBS has been on the edge of Nevada's 3rd & 2nd most populated city (Henderson). Secondly the lack of parking isn't going to play into UNLV's favor. Who's going to park miles away and walk or shuttle bus in to see UNLV play MWC teams?!?! Plus on site tailgating is a fraction of the space SBS has. Could see a bit of attendance bump because people can get in to see the new stadium for a cheapo UNLV ticket vs a Raiders ticket cost, but once that curiosity wears off & if UNLV bumbles along, the 2500 on-site parking spaces might be enough to handle the paltry crowds that could end up being the norm.

I think you’ll see more people at the games. Who UNLV opponents were, wasn’t much of a factor. See above

With so much on the table for this next era for UNLV FB the only way I see DRF & UNLV garnering any excitement is to somehow get a known name that has some cache' to bring in the casual fan........otherwise this new move to Allegiant could end up being a disaster if there's 8,000 people in the lower bowl - And there is literally nothing UNLV can do about being in the MWC & those 8 games per season. so the revenue will depend on somehow getting major P5 programs to agree to home & home's with UNLV and marketing the opponents fans on a weekend in Las Vegas so they can make some $$ - UNLV might as well get in bed with the LVCVA & LV Events right away to try 7 sign some package deals with serious P5 programs over the next decade.

The bump in scheduling would probably help recruiting and certainly get more casual local fan attention than playing LA Tech .......but eventually UNLV would need to rise enough to be somewhat competitive or it will just become a college football joke about UNLV sacrificing itself to P5's just to fill the stadium once a season

While I'm happy UNLV is getting a new stadium deal..........there's some serious questions as to what the outcome of this move will be and it's affect on the UNLV FB program.

If there's ever a time for UNLV to lay down all the chips it has and go all in, the time is right now with this coaching hire..........basically this could be a one time chance to get this FB program out of a 30+ year slump.

You, sir, are absolutely correct. Going all in, at this point, is the only hope for Rebel Football. They have entered a midnight deal at the crossroads. Once things get going at Allegiant, if the Rebels don't see return in 2-3 seasons, it will be curtains for the program in a decade or less. They need to invest huge in a coaching resource that has some chance of immediate impact and success.

 That's how and where I see UNLV FB is with this move.........for the first time ever there's a brand new FB complex on campus and a big new stadium - This is not the time for UNLV to sweat a $$ - If this stadium ends up being a drag or if the Raiders opt to screw with UNLV then the entire program is in jeopardy of being driven out of existence  - There's an obvious lack of parking, traffic could be a nightmare (Note: the I-15 / Tropicana / Dean Martin Drive interchange will undergo a three year redesign and rebuild AFTER the stadium is open) & some remote parking lots could be over a mile away .........that right there won't entice people not die hards from attending UNLV FB games.

Unless,  for some miraculous reason UNLV gets invited to the PAC-16 , I could totally see UNLV starting a campaign for the on-campus 30,000 seat stadium over at Tropicana & Paradise Rds .......no offense meant to any MWC programs but realistically only BSU & Hawaii would bring enough fans to come close to filling 25% of Allegiant Stadium .......so basically for a % of the UNLV FB season the Rebels could have more visiting fans than home fans, and that will surely be the case when any decent P5 teams come in - So there's basically little "home field"  aspect to UNLV FB going forward ......and it's been that way for more than a few games at SBS as it is

What are you talking about. You really lost it.

Give the kid a break.........he forgets to turn off is audio recognition application during his masturbation sessions ..........so while doing his thing to Porn Hub on one screen, the voice app is recording and typing out his verbal grunting and typing it to the MWC Board tab he has open in the background

Suites are usually bought for the season, not a game by game basis. They are geared for corporate gatherings, and the feasibility study had 50-60 suites being sold as doable.

I do agree with your earlier point that they should schedule P5 teams that travel. The Wisconsin series in the early 2000s was a boon for thr athletic department and the FB program with national tv broadcasting a packed SBS in primetime then.

Parking being an issue has been a UNLV problem for decades with unpaved dirt lots. Raiders acquired 17 acres for parking adjacent to the stadium.  Agreed, Tailgating will be a casualty, won’t be the same, game day is going to be...more sanitized/corporate if you will.

This is where UNLV will need to make their $$ - Bring in teams that travel in serious numbers & make it a package deal for a weekend in Vegas. - The Wisconsin games were a bonus boon because they were buying UNLV season tickets & selling or tossing the rest of the games

If UNLV can pull that off a few times it could make or break a season financially especially in the early going of the stadium

That ship sailed long ago with the UNLVnow project.

That was the plan to make UNLV more of a college town with dorms, shops etc. It was going to change everything and perception of UNLV.

MGM really screwed UNLV on that one, didn’t want anyone stealing revenue from their venue like the T-Mobile arena which was in the watercolor/planning stages at the time.

Its allegiant stadium or fold the program, IMO.

True - Would be a last ditch effort to salvage the RB program ........if not the only option might be fold FB and join the Big West again & try to see if BB can become relevant

I sincerely hope DRF pulls out all the stops.

Somehow, though, I think she botches this. Jim Mora jr is better than all the names being kicked around here, and he's not great.

It would be career suicide to hire any of the assistants whose names are being discussed here. Curious to see if shes feeling lucky.

UNLVnow not happening was a bummer for UNLV as a whole. But Allegiant is still going to be one of the most awesome places to watch a football game in the world. From a technological and amenities perspective, it's the best in the world.  UNLV will easily get 30,000-35,000 fans to each game in Year 1. If someone turns the program around they have the potential to bring many more. But for now, just tarp-off the entire upper-levels and get 35k crammed in the lower levels. With the state of the art video/audio technology coupled with the dome acoustics and the stacked seating design the atmosphere will still be top-notch.

People need to remember that Allegiant isn't Qualcomm Stadium w/ SDSU. It's an architecture marvel. Normally stadium seating is built at around a 158 degree angle, not Allegiant--it goes straight up. You can be in the nose-bleeds and still right on top of the action.
