Why Isn’t Air Force Receiving More Votes?

Recommended Posts

Obviously Air Force has two losses that sting, but from a pure numbers perspective Air Force should be receiving many more votes in the coaches poll. Utah State beat SDSU who is receiving 94 votes and Air Force just dominated Utah St. At the very least, Air Force should be given more respect for their strength of schedule and convincing wins against strong opponents. The two losses need to be compared to every other programs receiving votes losses’ and it’ll show that Air Force is likely much better than most of the teams receiving votes.

AFA can't get higher in the polls than SDSU because the Aztecs are preordained to rise to #25 sometime soon following which they will do their same old, same old and immediately fall apart.

Boom goes the dynamite.

Probably has to do with the fact that there are teams on their schedule that, no matter how well Air Force is playing, know how to play them. They lost to Boise State and Navy, which are two such teams. They still have Army and Wyoming ahead, two more such teams. AFA's game is a bit of a three-trick pony, and teams that know them well, know how to make the necessary hybrid run-pass defensive adjustments to disrupt their game.

The Aztecs are now 25th in the AP which tells you the rankings are ridiculous. That should last through the bye.  Option teams are the Rodney Dangerfield of football.

All is good. Unfortunately, the remainder of air forces schedule is the weakest part. They’ll beat army which will only emphasize the army navy game for the CIC trophy, but the army win won’t help Air Force with votes initially.

same when Air Force beats a CSU and UNM. However, as Air Force maintains their 2 loss record against 2 formidable teams, Boise and navy; and when the beat wyoming at home on thanksgiving weekend and final game of the season, their 10-2 record will reward them with poll rankings and a decent bowl game.

The problem is, Boise also has the easier part of their schedule ahead of them too. So they’ll probably win the division. SDSU and Hawai’i bothhave games they can lose. Including to each other. Boise will probably finish 11-1 and Air Force 10-2.

All is good. MW mountain division is still the better division, as they usually are.

Yep no teams worth a damn left for Boise and Air Force.  Foregone conclusion that both teams win out.  Might as well rest your starters and prepare for bowl season.

AFA should be receiving more votes, no doubt. I'd hate to play them again now because they are really starting to gel. If they could have pulled their heads out a little sooner against Navy the MWC would probably have 3 ranked teams for the second straight year.

Navy is "formidable"? Other than Air Force, they've only beaten two teams with winning records. Air Force's schedule looks suspect too- a win against P5INO CU, a win on the island, and a home win against a team that always struggles against AFA are the only "signature wins" to hang their flight helmets on. They've given up quite a few points in their wins. There's some solid reasons AFA isn't seeing votes right now. You do have the luxury of hosting both Army and the 'Pokes, but I'd wager there's about a 50/50 chance for a loss in the next four games. Everyone has their "WTF" game...

Yeah, Utah State in Logan won't be easy.
