5-Signs-You-Suffer-From-An-Inferiority-C

Lol at posting your trophy from last season in an Aztec thread. From this season. How cute.

Lol. I just saw your thread on September wins. Talk about inferiority complex!

Posting something that ran - today - in the daily newspaper of the 2nd largest city in CA and 8th largest city in the country is an "inferiority complex?"

You really should laugh maniacally like blue some more. It fits you.

Anyway, regarding the OP, this should put the matter to rest:

The first is the stat line for our game at UCLA. The second is from UCLA's game against #4 Oklahoma.

Defensively, we outperformed one of the best teams in the country.

How do you think Weber State's defense ranks up against SUDS defense?

Most in the second half when the game was over. They had maybe 87 yards in the first half total.

Even better yet to know SD St doesn’t play defense in the 2nd half, Hawaii is a 2nd half team.

One thing stood out to me on these stats, your offense must sucks. The difference in yards gained vs yards given up is in OU’s favor by over 300 yards. Not a good example of stats here.

New offensive scheme - the numbers week-to-week seem to indicate this is the case. Give the ids a few weeks to adjust ffs...

Once the Aztecs got 24 points  ahead of of NMSU they just went on auto pilot. AS for the brreakdown in 2nd half her is teh quote

“There were definitely some breakdowns in coverage and how we handled stuff,” SDSU defensive coordinator Zach Arnett said. “The biggest breakdown was lack of intensity.”

Linebacker Kyahva Tezino’s first career interception set up the touchdown that provided SDSU with a 24-point advantage.

“It appeared to me there was a dropoff in intensity about how we are playing (thereafter),” Arnett said. “Hopefully, we can educate off that. ... It’s disappointing we did not finish better. Obviously, we’ve got to get that solved quickly.”

Some of the breakdowns were not playing the down and distance properly, like defenders failing to take deep enough drops in third-and-long situations.

If they only had to play offense, yes...but OU's defense is horrible again this year. The fact OU gave up more yards to UCLA than SDSU did is more an idictment on how crappy OU's D is than it is some indicator of how good SDSU's D is. I'm pretty sure Cincy held UCLA to less yards then the Aztecs did then proceeded to get absolutely rolled by tOSU.

The UCLA game is not an isolated data point. We now have three games from which to pull data. And after three games, as per the OP, we are 4th in the nation in rushing D.

Did you just start following college football?  Because we had the #17 ranked D in the country three years ago, the #23-ranked defense in the nation two years ago, and  the #32-ranked D in the country last year.

Apparently you don't know it, but it's kind of Rocky Long's thing. And has been for, like, ever. You should really consider learning a little bit about the sport and its traditions in our conference.

Maybe a little reminder of the last time we met and locked your running game down like a penitentiary will refresh your memory?

Hmmm, that trend isn't looking promising.  None of my business though.  You guys carry on.

Well, being a Top 25 defense two years in a row is impressive, no matter how you slice it.

Regarding the continued slide into last year, I agree.

However, I would suggest a significant part of this was not just the loss of key personnel in the secondary (Demonte Kazee after the 20i6 season and Kameron Kelly after 2017) , but due to the fact that our offensive production fell dramatically last year after our starting QB went down. His replacement (and our starter this year) - Ryan Agnew - is not geared for a pro-style offense. And as the offense sputtered, the defense found itself spending more time on the field.

This took its toll over the course of the season, ending with us getting porn f*cked by a meddling G5 in the Guillermo Dogshit Bowl.

Alas, the leaf has been turned. With this new season comes a revamped offensive scheme. Of course there were going to be bumps early on. And I expect there to be more as they continue to acclimate to the new offensive sets and schemes at game speed. But we've already started to see results, and with the improved offense, I expect the defensive numbers to 'progress to the mean,' if you will.

I would also suggest that SDSU was the headmaster of a very weak division for some time.  The teams in the west have improved their offenses across the board.  We can praise the division for becoming more competitive, or we can accuse Suds of skating in a garbage division for too long.  I'll leave that one open.

Except for three tiny details that speak to the legitimacy of SDSU's success during that time:

1. We had a string of solid bowl wins that validated the regular season results, and

2. We had players who are now playing on Sundays

3. We finished the 2016 season ranked in the Top 25

In 2016, we beat the shit out of the Houston Cougars - led by Heisman candidate Greg Ward Jr. - in Vegas, and that was the year after we ran a train on a very decent Cincinnati team in Hawaii. We did this not just with the aforementioned stud cornerbacks who now play in the NFL, but with both a starting NFL RB and the all-time NCAA rushing leader on our squad.

I'm not saying the rest of the conference didn't suck giant sweaty donkey balls - you all (well, almost all) most certainly did - but we ran this conference simply because we were heads-and-shoulders better. :D

Ahhh, yes.  2016.  I remember it like it was just a couple of years ago.  63-31, and we weren't very good.  Just ask Idaho.

Yeah, you guys had a run of good teams with some great RB's.  The west also got better and slowed your roll.

“Since the Mountain and West divisions were formed in 2013, San Diego State has a .800 (16-4) win percentage against opponents from the Mountain Division.”

Speaking of garbage...
