Movie adaptations from books

Recommended Posts

Is there a better book to movie adaptation than Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King? They weren't perfect, but they're absolutely spectacular adaptation in my opinion.... and significantly better than the Hobbit adaptations.

Yes, because the movies were not as good as the books. Jaws, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, and The Godfather were all better than their source material. I’d add the tv series Friday Night Lights as surpassing its source material where the movie adaptation did not.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

I think you have to account for the quality of the source material.  The LOTR trilogy's magic was in the richness and depth of Tolkien's writing style and of his expansive universe.  The way he would spend as much time describing a mountain side or tree as a captivating moment in battle.  Hard to capture all that in another other medium than the written.  It is also not for everybody, there are plenty of people who simply do not enjoy that slow burn of Tolkien's writing style but fell in love with the movies enough to plug through the books.

LOTR>>>Godfather>>>then others listed.

Easy now, let’s not be putting Puzo’s pulp above McCarthy. And the fact remains, the LOTR movies have a lot of problems. They were groundbreaking and I love them, but they’ve aged like bananas.

I love LOTR movies and the books ( read them at least once every two years or so) and my lady loves aged bananas 😉

I'll give you one that is the opposite. Phenomenal book , another I try to read every few years. The Stand by Stephen King. The ' movie' ' mini series' was watchable. But , I knew going in, that there was no way anything on film was going to be able to do justice to the book.

I rarely agree with you on anything however on this you are spot on. He was a great author and though the films are not equal to the books they are as close as humanly possible. Great books, great films, wonderful ideas.

I thought both Shawshank Redemption and Misery were fantastic adaptations.

Bosch

Lincoln Lawyer (fans of Bosch should check this movie out, it's an extension of Bosch)

It's changed sequences and combined some stories but the show really captures the characters as Connelly intended. Including LA which is a character itself.

One of the Final Five..........

Casino and Wiseguy made Casino and Goodfellas...those were about on par with each other.

The Wolf of Wall Street was a better book than the film...same for Jurassic Park and The Lost World.

I disagree about Jurassic Park. Books always give more details and insight but JP is such a perfect blockbuster. The sound and the music of that movie was so great. Effects were such a leap forward.

The movie Gettysberg from the book "Killer Angels"

I love Gettysburg but I’m a dork. I don’t think it’s better than the book, but Berrenger and Daniels nail their performances. Sheen is a pretty good Lee too.
