We need to lift sanctions on Iran and Venezuela and decouple from these "axis of evil" bullshit excuses and start taking a closer look at the green new deal.

Trump tore up a good deal and told us he was a great deal maker.   He has failed to deliver on trade,  North Korea, Iran.  Trump would kill to have that old deal back and just rebrand it.  Now Iran is calling his bluff because they knew he wasn't prepared to get into another middle eastern war.  Now his real only option is to escalate to war because Iran has zero interest in taking a worse deal than they had before.  The deal maker has managed to get us where they are enriching uranium AND seizing ships.  Trumps one negotiating move of bluster and walking out doesn't seem very effective.

They have been enriching uranium since the deal was consummated. You are just too naive to realize it has been happening. Why do you think there were areas that could not be inspected without their approval? Seizing ships in international waters is an act of war they are responsible for. So far Britain and the US have shown restraint which may not last if Iran continues to push the envelop.

Possibly but I don't see it. I don't think Iran wants to fight us or the GCC. Iran spends about 16 billion a year on it's military. The GCC spends between 98-118 billion. The Iranians are good at insurgency and terrorism. Not so good at conventional war fighting.

Iran can use speedboats to harass shipping. They may even try to block the Strait of Hormuz. But fighting a conventional war against us, the UK and the GCC? They aren't that stupid.

The Saudi Military is a joke, as are their GCC counterparts. The Iranians would eat them for breakfast.

They spend a lot of money but they're staffed by foreign mercenaries. Not a recipe for success.

But it could come to a head between them at some point soon...the Saudis and Iran. Virtually every conflict in the region over the last 30 years or so after all, sans our Iraq misadventure, has been more or less smaller pieces in a greater Saudi-Iranian Cold War across the region.

A deal with no oversight or enforcement.

A deal that allowed Iran to make a nuclear weapon in 2025.

Doesn't sound like a good deal to me.   Which is why it wasn't a treaty and Obama kept it secret until he left office because no one would agree to that deal.

I think you and I went round and round about the GCC military before so I'll agree to disagree.

This article pretty much summaries my thoughts on Iran VS Saudi Arabia. https://foreignpolicy.com/2018/05/07/the-first-saudi-iranian-war-will-be-an-even-fight/

The restraint should be minimal...if the big stick isn’t enough to make you want peace, maybe a few good whacks will help the cause.

We had a deal that delayed development and now we dont.  So we now have a worse deal now than we had.  You cons don't understand that sometimes there are no great deals in international diplomacy.  The alternative is to roll in the tanks.  Now we are in a position where the development is accelerated and they know we are gun shy and none of our allies agree that the old deal was bad.  That is why Trump is in such a weak position.  So much for the master deal maker.

How is it worse?

An unenforceable deal doesn't delay anything.

You are like Neville Chamberlain making deals based on hope.

The Obama deal made Iran stronger and didn't slow them down at all.   They could do everything they wanted to make a missile that could carry a warhead.   Which could actually make them a threat to us.  Meanwhile we allow them into the world economy so they would have more money to put into research.

Plus all we could inspect was their existing nuclear facilities we knew about at the time.  Anything new or found later was off limits.

The Iran deal was similar to Obama’s trade for Bergdahl. Five high level terrorists for an American deserter. On top of the piss poor Iran deal he gives Iran billions in cash to fund more terrorist attacks. Yeah that Obama was a real deal maker. He was one our worst presidents ever in regard to foreign policy.
