if it were a little 6000 seat gym that would be true. but the T&M is the best college facility in the west, so there really is nothing second tier about having the tournament there.

But if you were talking about Alford, then yes, I agree. :D

What about that Events Center in Reno? :D

In Vegas I believe the T&M is the best arena for watching basketball.

In regards to MWC basketball tournament it is at the T&M becasuse of $$$. I could personally care less where the tournament is played.

Have it in Cedar City Utah, that is close to geographical center of the conference.  There are also other conference members that could host or maybe rotate yearly. Early March in  Laramie Wyoming, Colorado Springs, Logan Utah or Boise Idaho said to be nice. Fresno and Reno are popular travel destinations for many travelers year around. San Diego has beautiful weather and a place to watch fish jump through hoops. In are seriousness through, rotate it for the next 10 years. By the time it comes back to Vegas it will be the 4th or 5th tournament here that year.

How do the finances work?

Does the MWC pay all T&M expenses and collect all the revenues?

In the past the MWC tournament has been heavily subsidized by the convention and visitor authority.  The MWC has gotten free use of the T&M and BOTH THE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S teams from all 11 conference schools have been gifted free hotel rooms for the duration.  This is why the MWC is one of the few conferences to hold the women's tournament in the same city as the men's.

That is largely why it was such a financial disaster when the tourney moved to Denver for a few years.  And that was even back in the era when the conference tournament drew solid numbers.

Think your are correct - the LVCVA (Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority) along with LVE (Las Vegas Events) probably play a big part in the MWCT being held in the LV area

And if the NBA Las Vegas Summer League can use the Thomas & Mack / Cox Pavilion...........I think the MWC is happy to be in the mix

http://www.lasvegasevents.com/p/getconnected/signatureevents  - 3 College conference tournaments listed (WCC, MWC, PAC12 ) & the WAC used to be here or might still be but not sponsored by LVE or LVCVA
