Next James Bond will be: Lashana Lynch

As I have mentioned several times. In this movie, it looks like James Bond retires. The spy agency re-uses the numbers after a spy dies/retires so another character gets the number 007. That character happens to be a woman played by Lashana Lynch. Something happens I'm sure and JAmes Bond comes out of retirement to save the day. It is a James Bond movie its just that he gives up his job/number. Its not a big deal at least at this point. There has been no announcement that she will carry on the series.

People love to be outraged by these type of things and it cause us to over react.

If I had to guess from my watching of Bond movies, JB probably bangs her then she will be killed.

Idris would be a great pick for the next Bond. My sleeper pick for the next Bond is Richard Madden, thought he was great in Netflix's Bodyguard.

You’re explaining the plot as to how they get from a male James Bond 007 to a new female 007, but that’s not what I’m commenting on. I don’t care about the storyboard, I care that they are shoehorning a story to facilitate a woman 007 when it didn’t need to be done for any reason other than to satisfy left wingers/feminists who were outraged that a character written as a woman’s man was still allowed to exist.

Or you're a dinosaur who can't conceive of a woman spy, so a single one makes you throw a tantrum complaining about left wingers/feminists

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

As long as Bond isn’t a side character I think it’ll be alright. Who doesn’t love the old guy has to come out of retirement for one last job trope? I just pray that when they come to ask for his help one last time he’s out chopping wood with a beard. Gotta do this right.

And you have to throw in an obligatory new 007 schools the old 007 early in the movie, only to set up the old 007 using some wily old veteran trick to get them out of an impossible situation later in the movie to set up a moment like this:

Oh stop it. That's ridiculous. There are a lot of great female spies already in movies. Evelyn Salt, Dominika Egorova, Atomic Blonde, Jinx Johnson from a Bond movie, Bridget Von Hammersmark from Inglorious Basterds, and I suppose you could even throw the Charlies Angels in all their iterations in the mix, though not technically spies. I would also hate to see the powers that be replace Wonder Woman with a man....it's not what the part was written for and the ONLY reason to do it is to satisfy some lame protest or complaining. So drop the misogynistic conspiracy theory....the only thing more tired than an actual misogynist is someone who tries to blame everyone else of being one.

Well then I don't see what the problem is....since this actress is not replacing James Bond, she is playing a supporting role in a James Bond movie and she happens to be a spy.

It's like you're in a completely different conversation. The problem is not with her being introduced in the upcoming film, it's the fact 007 won't be a James Bond going forward. I could see if the franchise was dying, but the Casino Royal, Skyfall and Spectre are three of the top Bond films and have all done very well at the box office. I think the first film with the female Bond may do okay just because people will be curious, but ultimately, I think this will prove to be a bust for the franchise.

If this is all it is, then you're correct in my opinion.  The narrative, at least to some degree, is that she was going to replace JB or become the new JB character in this and perhaps future series.  And if that's the case, I think the critics have a very valid point.

Well, this is the OT board, which is more politics than anything else.  Perhaps we should expect politics to enter each and every thread to some degree, right?

Exactly. I should have known that expressing my dislike of a movie character being rewritten would bring cries of misogyny. I forgot where I was I guess.

I started a movement towards the overuse of the word misogyny, similar to what has been done with the word racist.  You're welcome to help me in this cause.

So it seems like you solved your own complaint?

Who said 007 won't be James Bond going forward? The articles I read didn't say that. If that's the case they haven't announced it. They are talking about a character in this next movie.... No plans beyond that have been announced. Even if bond stays retired at the end of this movie, they will just reboot it with the next bond. It isn't like the movies have ever had continuity long term from one movie to the next.

So you are right we are having 2 separate conversations. I'm talking about what is happening and what they are saying and you are getting upset at some future hypothetical situation that I don't think is likely happen. But go ahead and get worked up over something that may or may not (most likely not) happen.

I've spent too long arguing about a future James Bond movie.

If you read the article, it says that Bond (Daniel Craig) passes the torch to the star. "There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says 'Come in 007,' and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman," a Bond insider claimed." It says in the article that they're passing the torch to her to be the next 007. Until she quits or they decide it's a mistake and want to go another direction, she will be the next 007.

I mean, when a huge portion of the complaints about this explicitly draw from politics, it seems disingenuous to complain about politics entering the thread

I get what you're going for, but it's a little tone deaf in a thread where "a woman spy is useless unless she's hot enough lol" posts exist

IDK man. A little old lady spy seems like she would do pretty well. Who pays attention to the sweet cleaning lady?

I definitely mourned the loss of Dame Judi Dench from the franchise.
