It seems to me that the Caranos are into the casino flipping thing. Or did I read too much into that article.

It's a terrible idea from what I have read of Eldorado's management style. Seems like more nickel and diming, and taking away perks, which is rapidly killing Vegas. TBH, the Strip may finally be starting to realize they need to stop charging exorbitant "resort fees" and maybe go back to free parking and try to bring back the value tourist. Seems like piss poor timing on Caesar's part.

The greedy bastards are trying to squeeze every last drop from the lemon.

My neighbor goes to and through Vegas on a lot of business trips. He was just complaining about the resort fees many hotels charge. He does seem to get a lot of his rooms comped so not sure if they still nick him for resort fees.

I remember the Vegas of fifty years ago. It bore no resemblance to the Vegas of today. For one the mafia isn’t as prevalent. There were dudes back then you didn’t mess with.

It’s what happens when an unprofitable business is purchased. It is broken up and made profitable. Pretty simple.

Ok so I read it right. How's the gaming revenue in Reno nowadays?

Stable to slow growth. Niche market. Gaming revenue is now back to where it was in ‘92.

I was working at Boomtown in 92, went to Silver Legacy as an executive casino host in 96. Stayed there for a few years then the Peppermill poached me for more money and my player list.

Those were the days when we could paper comp. Before card tracking systems became the rule of the day. Seems the comps for players have been taken out of the hands of the people who had direct contact with the guests.  The 10% number in the article is extremely low.

We had to do everything we could to keep high/medium quality gamers coming to Reno from California and the PNW when Indian casinos and cheap flights to Vegas became the norm.

I was just in Vegas 2 weeks ago for the National Athletic Training Association Symposium (NATA) at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. My fiancee and I stayed at Excalibur and we paid $70 per night, but the resort fee was an additional $40 daily. We were there for 4 nights/5 days and it got incredibly expensive very quickly. No fridge in the room unless you request one (didn't find out until after we left) but you are charged $20 daily to have it in your room if you request one. $10 to use the hotel parking garage, but I didn't realize that you have to pay each time you leave. I had to run errands and ended up paying an additional $20 for parking on the same day. On day 2 I said screw it and drove to the grocery store over near Bass Pro and bought a case of energy bars, trail mix, fruit, bread, peanut butter, and a case of water. I made her some snack bags to have each day during the conference and that got us through breakfast/lunch and we saved our money for dinners since all of the restaurants in the hotel were insanely priced. The rooms didn't even have a damn coffee maker, I thought that was pretty standard these days. I've noticed these issues with hotels on the strip, but off the strip it seems to be better. When we went to Vegas back in November for the Mecum Auto Show/Auction we stayed at South Point Hotel which is about 7 miles further south on Las Vegas Blvd. and they were amazing! Free parking, fridge in the room, coffee maker, coupon book for free dinners at the buffet, free cocktails, including a free ticket for any movie showing at their movie theater. I'll definitely be staying there from now on.

I work at Circus.  One of my supervisors has been there almost since the place opened.  Each succeeding summer I’ve worked has been the slowest he’s ever seen (yes, meaning it keeps getting slower).  There are places back to “meh” status, but the Indian casinos (and mismanagement) are killing us.

Side note: it was mentioned in news articles that the combined company will go under the Caesars Entertainment, Inc. name.  However, the new board of directors, or so I’m told, has one more “old ERI” than “old CEI.”

Is it fitting or irony that possibly the most versatile word in the English language is also of unknown origin?

Circus should go to non-smoking. The Californians really notice the residue cigarette  smoke.

and Circus and the Legacy put that soap smelling perfume in their air ventilators to quench the smoke odors.......

That perfume smell on its own annoys the F out of me

Circus going non smoking is not a bad idea if they did it for certain areas. I mean, it's branded as a family friendly place, but they have (or used to have anyway ) a slew of nickel slots and video poker which the 'less affluent locals' used to sit at all day. Smoke and get free drinks....

For the record, smoking is only allowed in the casino area and outside.  Technically, one can go straight from the parking garage to the Midway without going through a smoking area. Even the smoking floors in the hotel part were done away with when the rooms were renovated, and the lobby is non-smoking (as silly as that is from an effective standpoint).

Side note: there’s a lot of internal debate as to whether they “perfume” the vents.

Side note #2: one of the worst decisions corporate made for us was making all of our “tables” virtual and shifting the real ones to Legacy.  That said, they take in more revenue from the arcade than they do gaming.

Is it fitting or irony that possibly the most versatile word in the English language is also of unknown origin?

Used to work in IT for the Eldorado a couple of years ago. Then they were buying casinos left and right so this major purchase doesn't surprise me. They pretty much own downtown now.

I'm sorry, I worked in IT for a casino once, breathing in smoke and the environment was horrendous and terrible people. Not that it was bad there at the el dorado but I was actually dissapointed, I thought it would have been a lot funner but it turned out to be too authoritarian concerning the money and clientel. Lot's of security and criminals.

Was there for 3 months before I got poached for a Data Center job. Best decision I've ever made. Before that I was IT for the Nugget for a few years. But ya casinos badly underpay IT staff and with all the Tech companies coming into the area the casino are going to get burned because they can't pay IT staff only $14 an hour anymore. The only advantage from working at the casinos is you got exposed to a lot of different things and saw how all the different departments operate.

Agreed, they starve the IT dept of $$$ and resources, but ya you do get exposure to the different products and gaming companies. I remember thinking when I intervied for the gig, wow a casino, they should pay great and it should be fun, it's a casino after all. ya no
