Pretty sure at least Magic and Kareem were there before West.

They were there before West was General Manager but he was an assistant coach when Kareem came.  He probably had a voice in those decisions.

Lakers owner Jack Kent Cooke was known for having a keen eye identifying leadership and teaching qualities (he also gave Hall of Famers Sparky Anderson and Joe Gibbs their first managerial/head coaching positions),[51]and asked West to coach and participate in player personnel decisions.[52] In the 1976–77 season, West became coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. In three years, he led the Lakers and star center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to a 145–101 record, making the playoffs in all 3 seasons and reaching the Western Conference Finals once in 1977.[53]

West did land Mychal Thompson in a trade midway through the '86-'87 season, which resulted in two more titles for the Lakers.

Ball was a bit of a disappointment. Injuries played a part but I thought he would have a bigger impact. Maybe the change of scenery will work in his favor.

Not unless it changes the look of his jump shot. That across the body motion dooms him against any above average NBA defender. If he's never a threat to score, the off ball defenders don't have to maintain help positions and can overplay passing lanes choking the offense.

Jason Kidd was a 40% career shooter.  He did ok.  Ball doesnt have to be a shooter to be productive.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

We now live in a world where the Nets and the Clippers can both be applauded for their on and off court work.  Try wrapping your brains around that.

And the Lakers have Rob Pelinka.

The Lakers still have Javale McGee and signed Danny Green and Quinn Cook :cheer:.  Could be worse.

Boogie fever hits LA too.

Lulz.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

Cousins is a good signing.  Especially at 1 yr/3.5.  The Lakers need bodies.

Giving Rondo 2 years, otoh...

Those are some solid signings. Lakers are going to favorites to win the championship. No doubt.

Plenty of doubt.  There is no head-and-shoulders favorite.  Lakers may be A favorite, but so are 6 or 7 other teams.  And the Lakers may not even be the best team in LA.

There is no doubt the Lakers are the best basketball team ever not only in LA but everywhere.:lalalala:

That said they may not beat the clippers next year.

That’s not a stretch. LA teams will finish one and two.

Anthony Davis is frail just like LeBrick.  They should’ve tried to get Kawhi.

Cmon, It's all about who the premier players are and Lebron and Davis are right at the top of that meter.  Lebron and Davis are a big deal.  They will be in the playoffs next season.
