Who Are Your Top 10 Guitarists

Recommended Posts

See if we can have a post that doesn't get political.

My top 10 in no particular order:

Eric Clapton, George Lynch, Eddie Van Halen, Dimebag Darryl, Slash, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Brian May, Tony Iommi & Randy Rhoades.

I like 90% of your list, but one dude is missing that most will say I'm crazy for including. Prince was an amazing guitarist in his own right. He should always be included in this conversation.

You are now free to roast the shit out of me.

I’m not cultured enough to have a top 10.

Hendrix, Keith Richards, Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman, Albert King, Jimmy Page, Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, Lou Reed

In no real order after Hendrix.

In no order

  • Mark Tremonti
  • Prince
  • Eric Clapton
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Eddie Van Halen
  • Carlos Santana
  • Joe Satriani
  • Albert King
  • The Edge
  • B.B. King

He's not cracking my top 10 right now, but someone blues/rock fans should check out is Eric Gales... the dude can shred. It also looks like my list is relatively blues inspired.

Kind of off-topic, but I'd say Flea is the best bass guitarist ever.

Or are we only allowed to list guys born in the mid-50s or earlier?  lol

I'd say that Geddy Lee, John Entwistle, and Les Claypool are in that mix with Flea as well.

Anyone who doesn't play solos. And Martin Rev.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

I knew I would forget someone, as in Prince.  Also, Glen Campbell.  Maybe it should be a top 20.

Johnny Marr (The Smiths)

Daniel Kessler (Interpol)

Carlos Santana

Slash

Peter Frampton

Dave Navarro

Brad Delson (Linkin Park)

Noel Gallagher (Oasis)

Omar Rordiguez-Lopez (At The Drive-in & Mars Volta)

John Pizzarelli Jr.

Pfft. Lots of former hippies and flower childs on this board. The bulk of my list are the 80s and 90s.
