The MWC is about to get better. Should the conference office move?

Recommended Posts

I really feel these new stadiums at UNLV and San Diego State are going to be HUGE for the conference, as both cities are 1A and 1B of Mountain West destinations.

San Diego State, particularly, (without the Chargers) have a good opportunity to sell Mountain West sports more effectively than ever before.

Thompson has often talked about lack of population as a detriment, but is having the conference office in Colorado Springs really maximizing the league footprint to sell the conference?

These new stadia should become headquarters (ground zero) for all things Mountain West. I realize Colorado State has a new stadium too, but the MWC is better served being more visible in these highly populated (and visited) cities.

The Aztecs are the crown jewel of the conference.

The MWC needs to make that their IDENTITY... more WESTERN, than Mountain. More metropolitan. More sophisticated. Leverage its similar time region with the Pac 12 in any way possible. Possibly start a Challenge with the WCC. Hair should be visible at those games, instead of ordering Papa Johns in Colorado to watch them on TV.

All these new stadiums make Boise's look brutal. They need to spend some of that extra money to update.

The new stadium in Vegas is a net-loss for the university & the conf:

#1 - Loss of Vegas Bowl/down-graded 12-Pack opponent in LA Bowl

#2 - Competition for the local’s f’ball $$$ w/the Raiders coming to town

nothing...that's why we're moving to brand new digs in Dallas. The AAC is just waiting for their lease to run out at the end of 2019.

1. What kind of conference is this anyway that one of the teams can upgrade it's stadium so that it's too good to host a conference bowl game?

 2. If you can afford Raiders tickets you can afford both UNLV and the two markets will have very little crossover anyway.

push the P6 narrative by moving next to the CFP headquarters...

Just like the Pac 12 moving their HQ to downtown San Francisco would get them an excellent media deal...

As the lineal Big East, the Providence AAC conference office was an outdated asset from the leagues beginnings.

It did spawn some good things, like the media day clambake.. but it was removed from where all the action is.

Once the office relocates to Dallas, it’s a short drive to every Western school (and the MBB conference tournament).

honestly, I would have thrown UConn a bone and put it in Hartford CT which is also 'conveniently' located 20 mins from the ESPN Headquarters in Bristol.

That would have been cool as well. Mike Aresco and Burke Magnus could have played golf together every week and cut some deals.

MWC to San Diego and AAC to Dallas are two of the best ideas I have read on this board in a long time. Both scream big time and both are a major improvement. However before we move we should fire our glorious leader as a sign that the MWC is entering a new and better day.

speaking of the raiders, I have a co worker who just finished purchasing the PSL for two seats, mid tier in the corner.. $30,000 for both seats, grants them the seat license for 5 years. Next they will actually purchase the season tickets when they go on sale.

The same it does for CUSA's identity or the Big 12's identity.  Not a damn thing.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
