New Football Bowl in Dallas?

Recommended Posts

Fenway Park gets a bowl game, Daily Oklahoman, May 10, 2019, by Berry Tramel

"Fenway Park is getting a bowl game.  Can Wrigley Field be far behind?"

"The Fenway Park game will align with the Atlantic Coast and American Athletic conferences.  Fenway joins Yankee Stadium (Pinstripe Bowl) and the Diamondback's Chase Field (Cheez-It-Bowl) as major league baseball parks hosting bowl games."

"And the Forth Worth Star-Telegram reported this week that the Texas Rangers would like to get a bowl game for their new stadium, Globe Life Field, which is scheduled to open in 2020."

Aresco publicly stated that there are talks and a proposal for an AAC/BYU bowl game.  This would certainly be a very nice site if that game does in fact materializes.  But who knows?  Globe Life Field would be a half way distance between the eastern AAC schools and BYU.

If the MWC gets a Texas member(s) then a lot more options open up bowl wise. I think a mini BCS series (a “Challenge” in FB) with the Eastern schools in the MWC & the Western schools in the CUSA would promote both leagues. Kinda like when the original MWC and Originial CUSA had the Liberty Bowl for their champion.

Aint gonna happen before 2026.  The next bowl cycle gets announced this month.  And all the Rangers said is they would 'like' to use the new stadium for bowl games and concerts. They're spitballing.  BTW, the Cotton Bowl is played about 500 yards away, and the 'old' ballpark will be retrofitted so that they can play....the XFL.

"It’s certainly a possibility and something we are interested in pursuing; something like this we have to get the stadium built first before we can really move forward so teams and schools know what it will look like, and how many it will seat for a game,” Matwick said. “We also want to be respectful of the Cotton Bowl. We would not want to do anything to take away from the Cotton Bowl.”

He also said they were talking to the Big 12.

But surely what we need is another bowl game squeezed into a baseball field.  And moving the Armed Forces Bowl there would just compound the stupidity.

And its not in Dallas.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Not a single post at Cougarboard.com about a BYU-AAC possible bowl game at Globe Life Field. Not even a post about a possible Globe Life Field bowl game of BYU vs anybody at cougarboard.com.

I'd think AAC fans would post the info at cougarboard to gauge BYU fan reaction to the possibility.

Yet it is being posted on the MWC Board?

Looks like either weak trolling or fake news.

Doubt there is much to this.  Already have 4 bowl games in the Dallas-Ft Worth Metroplex.  Two of those games are are struggling at present---and we have a proposal to add a fifth bowl game to an already horribly over saturated Dallas-Ft Worth market?   Doesnt make much sense to me.  Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio, or Houston make more sense as Texas Bowl sites at this time.  I dont see this talk amounting to much of anything.

If only CT was proactive.  What a thought.  The Big West will be getting more attention before the MWC office wakes up.

This is probably too nice of an arena to pass up.  For example, the Boston College/Boise State bowl game was cancelled shortly after it started due to bad weather.  Probably move an existing bowl to Globe Life Field and rename the bowl.

Nothing is fixed in concrete or sacred any more.  The Cotton Bowl Football Bowl moved out of the Cotton Bowl to Jerry's World.  If that bowl can move, any bowl can move.

The Vegas, Hoiday, Belk, Gator, Music, Arizona and Outback Bowls have made changes for the upcoming 6 year cycle.  Three new bowls have been added, Los Angeles, Myrtle Beach, and Fenway Park.  The hardest hit bowl may be the Independence Bowl.  More changes may yet occur in this bowl cycle when final announcements will be made end of May.

BYU has played in 7 bowls since 2011 when the Cougars withdrew from the MWC.  Four of those seven bowls are no longer in existence or have new conference affiliations locking BYU out.  If BYU is to upgrade its bowl possibilities and opponents, the Cougars will need to look east.

2011:  Armed Forces

2012:  Poinsettia (No longer in existence)

2013:  Fight Hunger (Renamed Redbox Bowl. Locked out due to PAC/B1G agreement)

2014:  Miami Beach (Now Frisco Bowl,  AAC VS At-Large)

2015:  Las Vegas (Locked out due to PAC/B1G/SEC agreement)

2016:  Poinsettia (No longer in existence)

2018:  Potato

Most bowls are east of BYU.

So, basically, Franco is still dead.

Except for the San Marcos part, yes.

If BYU is bowl eligible this year, they are contracted to the Hawaii Bowl.

I was thinking Frisco/Miami Beach Bowl might have another move.

I agree.  Of the 4 bowls in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area, the Frisco Bowl is the weakest.  Move it to Globe Life Field, which would be a great setting for an AAC/BYU bowl game, if indeed that bowl comes to pass.  Anyway, we should have an answer to this riddle by end of May.
