MWC Revenue

Recommended Posts

I had not looked in a while at what kind of Athletic Revenue the MWC is reporting to the Government: Equity in Athletics

After all the grief given about Boise St I was a little surprised by the order of revenue claimed last year (the Academies are never listed/No Air Force):

1. Colorado St: $55,228,814; Net Revenue $3,068,965; Football Revenue $21,696,561

2. San Diego St: $54,893,977; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $14,900,547

3. Fresno St: $49,472,907; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $17,870,018

4. Hawaii: $42,987,651; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $11,177,559

5. UNLV: $41,859,319; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $9,982,684

6. Nevada: $41,381,120; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $10,037,079

7. New Mexico: $40,693,911; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $9,719,807

8. Wyoming: $38,561,845; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $13,481,960

9. Boise St: $38,060,709; Net Revenue $2,414,075; Football Revenue $20,470,985

10. San Jose St: $35,089,263; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $10,921,731

11. Utah St: $33,848,199; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $10,370,950

I added the football revenue on because I thought it was interesting that only Boise St, New Mexico, and Wyoming had net revenue in football (Colorado St likely adds the stadium expansion monies/payments into their revenue for accounting reasons)...

Compare these numbers to the lowest numbers of each P5 conference:

ACC- Wake Forest $70,856,132; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $25,793,812

Big 10- Rutgers $78,205,862; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $25,939,804

Big 12- Iowa St $71,856,869; Net Revenue $83,617; Football Revenue $44,264,830

Pac 12- Washington St $73,466,115; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $41,709,437

SEC- Vanderbilt $80,093,541; Net Revenue $6,022,566; Football Revenue $30,331,584

The former MWC Members:

TCU (Big 12)- $115,240,541; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $56,584,276

Utah (Pac 12)- $82,467,618; Net Revenue $8,099,427; Football Revenue $55,835,312

BYU (WCC)- $79,644,991: Net Revenue $10,587,333; Football Revenue $28,209,221

It looks like some schools add the TV money into their football revenue and others don't or maybe Utah averages over $200 per seat per game.

YEAH!  That extra 160k each school would get if the Boise deal did not exist is the reason they can't keep assistants!!

What are you calling me out for moron??   I haven’t even posted in this thread nor does the original post on Net Revenue mean anything of football profit.

Calling you out for delusions that the Boise deal would make a dent in the revenue of other MWC teams.  160k more revenue would surely help MWC teams keep assistants.  LMAO

Wow so you are drunk and illiterate.   But given your Trucker U education, I guess that’s to be expected.   Let me repeat myself for the Boise grads.

Boise had some legitimate complaints about retaining top coaches.  So instead of spreading the Boise money evenly the conference should develop a model to reward teams that excel so all teams can build incentives into their coaches contracts and have more revenue to cover it.

If Boise’s sweetheart deal makes no difference then Boise should refuse to be paid more than anyone else.

They shouldn’t milk the SDSUs and FSUs of their full shares.

My theory is MWC football and MWC basketball’s downturn coincided with their athletic departments getting drained of those essential funds.

When you get paid 1.1 million, that slice of pie matters.

When Craig Thompson gave Boise State slices from every MWC program’s pie... they called that Hair Pie. 🥧

I don’t think you look at taking away the Boise deal as (appreciably) adding to each school’s Assistant $$ pool (low six figures), rather, it’s about Boise not have that extra seven figures to pay said Assistants themselves. Addition by subtraction. When you look at it that way the playing field seemingly is then more leveled - not when looking at it the other way around...

Yeah, it was the loss of 160k and not the loss of 3 top 15 teams that affected football.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

A little surprised by the AAC's Athletic Revenue (Navy's not given):

1. UConn: $78,985,762; Net Revenue $568,086; Football Revenue $18,955,517

2. SMU: $64,607,467; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $20,465,957

3. UCF: $60,069,492; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $26,822,661

4. Temple: $55,933,640; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $21,066,698

5. Memphis: $55,464,035; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $17,569,774

6. Houston: $55,344,923; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $14,216,992

7. USF: $51,710,233; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $13,336,920

8. Tulane: $48,417,254; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $14,191,889

9. Cincinnati: $48,384,869; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $13,856,255

10. East Carolina: $43,689,985; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $11,203,863

11. Tulsa: $40,796,150; Net Revenue $0; Football Revenue $13,882,659

++Wichita St: $32,083,881; Net Revenue $2,039,785; Football Revenue $0

Not sure how this really compares, bottom line is the majority of the schools from both conferences are spending everything they make (not many "Net Revenues").

That is true for almost every school in the country.  Very few athletic departments make money.  Part of that is by choice (accounting) but a lot of it is necessity to keep up with other peer institutions.
