Columbus really up 3-0 ??

Maybe coach John Torts  found some kind of defense to knock the Bolts attack down!!?

or its just a lucky very favorable personnel match up for Columbus?

One of the Lightening's best players was suspended for last night's game so a few people here called that they could very well lose last night. However now they stand as the first president's trophy winner to lose 4-0 in the first round. Also would be the 4th straight year that the President's Trophy winner wouldn't get past the Conference Quarterfinals

The Bolts best defenseman, Victor Hedman also did not play last night.  He was injured late in the season, played the first two games of the playoffs but still is not back to form.

I'm as shocked as anyone that the Blue Jackets are up 3-0 and have dominated Tampa so far in the series.  I picked Tampa to win in six games .  That said, Columbus has a lot of talent on the roster.  They underacheived during the regular season and it looked like they might trade their two best players, Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin.  Both players will be UFA's next season and had indicated they will not re-sign with the Blue Jackets.  The ownership rolled the dice keeping both players and risking not getting anything in return if they left at the end of this season.  Columbus also went all in at the trade deadline bringing in 4 more UFA's, two of which have turned into fantastic additions in Matt Duchene (2nd line center) and Ryan Dzingel (2nd line LW).  It took awhile and they barely made it into the playoffs but the Blue Jackets are now firing on all cylinders and when on his game Bobrovsky is one of the best goalies in the NHL.  Due to the late season trades Columbus only has 2 picks in the upcoming draft and 6 players on their roster that will become UFA's at the end of the season.  Next years lineup might look very different.  It was a helluva gamble that so far is paying off.

It's been quite a week for twenty year old sophomore UMass star defenseman Cale Makar.  He won the Hobey Baker (ncaa hockey's Heisman) award on Friday, played in the NCAA national championship on Saturday, signed an NHL contract with the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday and will suit up for the Av's in game three tonight vs his hometown and favorite team growing up Calgary.

An injury to defenseman Sam Girard opened up a roster spot for tonights game.  Makar was drafted no. 4 overall in 2017.

That was a good win by the AV's up in Calgary (in OT) last time out

To me Columbus has underachieved for the last few years. However the series isn't closed out until it is over. If Tampa gets swept that will probably do a lot of damage to them at least mind wise.

i agree that was a big win for Colorado. I think if you can go on the road and split the two games, that is huge for the future of the series.
