MW Hoops the road to a 1 bid league

Recommended Posts

This years performance didn’t help us at all.  Thanks Reno.  Again we were over seeded and again everyone got beat.  Heard one of the talking heads saying that we should be a 1 bid conference.   No good.

Do the numbers 321 and 8-24 mean anything to you?

What is your school doing to change this perception? San Jose state, Wyoming, and Air Firce drag down this conference. Air Force does pretty well when considering their limitations.  I fully expect Boise, CSU, and New Mexico to improve in the short term and unlv with the right hire should be a top 50 program again soon. The Mwc should focus on basketball, we should expect to be a consistent 3 bid league going forward

Mike Bronson thinks there is plenty of thanks to go around.  Reno scheduled like they wanted to be there at least.

The MWC... it seems like they're getting somewhere but not getting anywhere.

Not really.  We are rebuilding.  It was expected.   When we get shots at the NCAA as lower seeds we need to perform.  Don’t take this so personal

The MW should focus on football. The 3 bid basketball model doesn’t pay the bills out west.

Yeah really nothing wrong with discussing this topic.  Don’t be a pansy.  MW needs to find a way to win tournament games.  Not going to say this was our worst performance as a conf in the tournament but when we have a top 10 team and we are bounced in the first round.  That hurts.

Yes, it hurts for sure.  I think both Nevada and Utah State were very good teams not great teams.  I think both their records were inflated by a plethora of weak opponents in conference.  Their dominance of the conference gave most an over inflated confidence in how good these teams actaully were.  That's on all of us!  My problem with your OP is that it read as though you put it all on Nevada when every program in the MWC and especially Wyoming needs to step forward and take our share of the blame.

That is how it works.  Reno and Utah St were our representatives this year.  So yeah the pressure was on them.  It goes with out saying everyone else has work to due.  Reno was represented as a top 10 team.  And did they ever act the part.

Air Force makes up for it in Football.  Wyoming is up and down like most of us.  San Jose St is the one that sucks everyone's tit.  They need to be kicked to the curb.

7 and 8 seeds aren’t exactly seeded to do much in the tournament, those matchups are pretty even

While the matchups are pretty even, the NCAA was trying to pay the MWC.  By seeding, the MWC should have earned four credits.  Instead they earned only two.  Even in a bad year, the Pac 12 may triple that.  Financially, with the gap in tv revenue and other distributions, the MWC can't afford to take 50 cents when the NCAA is trying to hand them a dollar.

Such a dumbass thread. Which team do you leave out?

1. Nevada - preseason top 10, undefeated OOC, co-regular season champs, made it to the semis in the conference tournament, multiple guys who could end up in the league?

2. USU - co-regular season champs, 3-2 record against other tournament teams, possible NBA center, won the freaking auto bid?

The Boise and Wyo fans talking shit after the games are over is rich. GTFO until your teams have a pulse.

It’s a shame that SDSU, UNLV, and UNM couldn’t maintain the level they were at not too long ago. You take them when they were competing for (and getting) at large bids ago and put them with today’s UNR, USU, and Fresno and have SJSU just be bad instead of embarrassing and the MWC would be getting 3-5 bids annually.

The MWC is not a 3-5 bid league. Unless the Spanish flu wipes out millions on the east coast, the Mwc will remain a one bid league.

I'm pretty certain that Wyo and Utah St are the only MWC schools to have a post season win this year in basketball.  So there's that! :shots:

The World Needs More Cowboys!
