Who's gone, Who's gone/back MWC basketball 2019-2020+Transfers when announced

Recommended Posts

For UNM, Lyle, McGee, (transfer) Zane Martin, and Manigault have been on twitter saying they are excited to come back and play in the pit yada yada yada. Granted it’s Twitter, but better than saying they're out.

Haney and Wacker graduate, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rice let’s several more go most notably the two Juco disappointments. Alston, Jessup, Dickenson, and Hobbs all return. We recruited a PG RJ Dennis that was one of the better players in Chicago. We have the two athletic transfers. The Oregon kid will be eligible mid Dec. Akot the UA transfer is applying for immediate eligibility based on possible sanctions on Arizona. He looks like the best athlete we have ever had including Hutchison IMO.

The post will be manned by redshirt Jorch and freshman Frazier who is a very good shooter. However, both posts are slow afoot and will be problems on defense. We will have a lot more depth with redshirt freshman Frazier, Abercrombie, and Rice becoming eligible. As noted we will likely add a couple of more players if Rice runs the Jucos.

Our team will be better with a lot more depth. How much better depends on how Dennis, Frazier, and the Oregon transfer perform. And having better luck in close games. If Akot becomes eligible we will challenge for the top spot.

Roderick Williams was BSUs best player in non-conference play. Then fell off into obscurity as soon as MW play began.

Jorch won’t be able to stay out of foul trouble so he won’t play much (averaging 10 fouls per 40 minutes over his career). Inside game will struggle unless Frazier is the real deal.

Yup, Lyle just Tweeted he's coming back. Massive relief.

Lobos will have the talent to compete next year (granted we thought they did this year)

Williams problem is being a tweener. Not tall enough to be effective consistently inside and lacks a perimeter shot to play outside. If he develops a medium range jump shot over the summer it would bump his game a lot because teams now play him exclusively to drive. I’m sure MWC teams picked that up from his OOC games and that’s why his play fell off in conference play.

He may also have an attitude problem as he was seen arguing with the two coaches and Haney late in the Nevada game. Other times he has seemed aloof on the bench not even paying attention to the game. I think it’s 50/50 that he even returns,

Boise won't lose 20 but I wouldn't bet on them winning 20 either unless at least 2 of 3 things happen;

1. Alston keeps improving while putting on weight and becomes the go to guy in tough games

2. RJ Dennis gets at least half the PG minutes because he can really score in addition to the things Dickinson brings to the table

3. Akot gets to play now.

With the 2 transfers a real post player becomes less necessary.  Small ball with Alston, Jessup, Akot, Dennis/Dickinson and Kigab  would be fun to watch.  With Hobbs, Frazier, Jorch, Abercrombie and others off the bench when more length is needed.

If Akot plays I think we challenge for the MWC championship. That kid is one helluva athlete. Put him in with the others and we will be really good.

I expect the Lobos to be very good next year.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.
