Robert Smith is a great basketball mind. Could have been a great HS coach but he wasn’t into the politics of HS basketball.

Robert was a heady player.  A couple of us went with Jerry to see Robert when he was in the Nuggets pre-season camp in the fall of 77.  Larry Brown who was the Nuggets coach at the time commented on Robert’s basketball I.Q. and what a great job Jerry did at preparing him (Larry always liked having Jerry’s players on his teams) for the professional game.

The other thing about Robert was despite his size he was one of the toughest players to put on a Rebel jersey.  Was co-MVP of the 77 West Regional with Eddie Owens all the while playing with a 102 degree fever and bronchitis.

He was in such bad shape Jerry wouldn’t play him more than a few minutes at a time because his breathing was so bad.  Following the victory over Idaho State he immediately went to the hospital and didn’t check out until Wednesday the week of the Final Four.

Slick was tough as nails.

Bump....just to keep the megathread on the first page....

To keep it on subject... Was pretty cool to see coach Otz kick off the Golden Knights playoff game tonight.

Love that he is embracing the city

Knights abusing the Sharks like Rebels abusing Sparty.  Can't wait to see Sparty Coach Jean Valjean lead the Sharks onto the ice for Game 5.

From a basketball perspective I like the fact that Totz teams put a ton of points on the board and will blow you out. Great fit for Vegas.

Im concerned a bit about getting stops.

Im also curious to see if Totz and his staff are versatile enough to adjust their style to win right now with this group. Or will it be like when Kruger took over and he had to stack talent for a couple years then make a run.
