I can’t say I saw this coming.

I feel bad for Menzies not going to lie.

Obvious SMOKESCREEN.

They've been in talks with either Pitino/Matta for months. This is just lip-service to make Menzies and the media believe he was given a fair-shake and that UNLV hasn't been actively looking for his replacement behind his back.

This better be a real guy with a proven track record. Or otherwise we’re back to square 1 and on our way to another 10 win season.

As soon as the program was about to settle down as well....

I don't understand why ppl are feeling bad for menzies. He knew exactly what he was walking into. He knew the roster had been depleted. He knew it was late in the recruiting season. He knew that UNLV likes winners. He knew it was going to be extremely difficult.

And yet, he decided to build the way he did. He decided to primarily focus on highschool kids. He decided to bring on project players. He decided to schedule poorly. He decided to take his sweet time rebuilding.

It's all on him.

What's the point in that? She either has someone lined up or she doesn't. If she doesn't, you conduct a search.

Starting to think there might not be a "ready to go deal"

Maybe they had to do it this way so Pitino would not be lying about his best friend Marv.

Yeah, they have to hire a firm to search for Pitino, lol.

If she has a coach in waiting, you don't need a smokescreen.

We’ll hire Thad Matta and then he’ll bolt.

Dude this is the inner 25+ year old virgin in you talking right now. Fight off those demons and talk like a f*cking winner for a change. No more negativity.

UNLV is a great job for someone with the will to succeed. If we've learned anything over the last year, it's that Las Vegas is the best sports city in the country. UNLV has elite facilities and the biggest local recruiting advantages in the country. (NBA Summer League, AAU Circuit, Findlay Prep, BG)

UNLV has always had the potential to be an elite program---and it will be as long as we don't f*ck up this coaching hire.

UNLV is an attractive job, but you’re very deluded.  Lon Kruger made the point one time that the other team is trying to win too.  Maybe you should keep that in mind. 😉

Cleaner version of the official release

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois announced today that Marvin Menzies will no longer serve as head men's basketball coach. Menzies completed his third season in Las Vegas with an overall mark of 17-14.

"I want to thank Coach Menzies for calming the waters and building a strong foundation for our men's basketball program over the past three years," Reed-Francois said. "A change of this significance impacts many good people. It was not taken lightly. Ultimately, after a thoughtful and methodical review, I felt a new direction was necessary for the long term, best interests of the program and our athletics department. We wish Coach Menzies and his family all the best as their journey continues."

Over Menzies' three years with the Rebels, UNLV finished 48-48.

A national search for a new men's basketball head coach will begin immediately. Fogler Consulting, led by former college basketball coach Eddie Fogler, will assist Reed-Francois in the search.

Reed-Francois will meet with the media at 4:30 p.m. This will be Reed-Francois' only media availability until the announcement of the new coach.
