It's a crapshoot no matter who she hires.  You won't know what you've got for a year or two.

Sometimes coaching decisions are based upon who does the best in the interview process.  You (or anyone) could end up with a guy who interviews well but cannot communicate well with 18-20 y/o kids.

And let's all admit that none of us saw USU winning the conference under a coach few of us had ever heard of.

Will DRF wait for this new guy to build or does he have a short leash of about three years - Sometimes this things work out early and fade late - USU won with their new guy, but let's see where USU is in 3 years from now .........this happens a lot in FB where a new guy wins right away and then fades the longer he's there.

Unless the guy is absolutely horrible, she has to give him at least 4 years.  But if he's horrible, both he and she may not be around for very long.

Menzies got three with one being a throw away season.........if the UNLV roster is left bare by transfers, then this guys 1st year could be a throw away (with more miserable attendance) and then he's on the clock for his next two years I guess

If the list of UNLV transfers hold and this new guy can't convince a few to stay.........he's walking into a roster with 5 bodies, 3 of which have barely played so he's got a massive recruiting / roster filing project just to field a team for next season much less be competitive and not sure what recruits he might have that would follow him to UNLV, but I'm guessing the recruits he had for South Dakota aren't going to trip the lights for UNLV fans

Hope this guy is a miracle worker

SOS of 315 and choked in the first round of the Summit League with Mike Daum.

Really???

Top 10 in scoring last two years. Ncaa 2 out of 3 years coaching.

Schools like that often have low sos. He won vs it.

T. J. Otzelberger would be a fantastic hire. Hoping he's at least on the short list.

Scott Nagy too.

Hopefully her patience pays off. Shes been like fort knox with information. I hope she pulls this off in a big way.

That my friend is how a professional works.  It's refreshing from the past administration.

From your lips to God's ears...let's hope we get to see anything past year three with Smith at USU. The guy's energy and passion is off the charts - players absolutely love him and would run through a brick wall for him and they aren't even "his" players. He brought a couple of Summit League recruits with him, neither of which saw any significant PT, and only had time to bring in one player that was actually recruited to USU with his staff in place and that player was Queta. I'm not saying every player he signs will have the impact Queta did but you have to admit he's batting 1.000 right now. Give him 3 years to get the guys he wants and it could get interesting. The good news is he blew expectations out of the water in year 1, the bad news is he has now set the bar really high and reset future expectations. It will be fun to see if he can live up to them.

She's not getting 4 years on this hire.  She just fired a coach who just had our best MWC record in years and with a team filled with some decent young players to build with.  Arguable about what that actually means in a crappy conf, but it still a true assesment.  That's why this whole thing makes no sense unless she figures out a way to get the money for a big time hire who can win right away and put butts in the seat.  It can be done, but as always money talks and UNLV either needs to quit fkin around and figure out a way to pay a big time coach or just roll things back on the hoops program, start playing games in the Cox and maybe just put our resources into football.

After all, football is how most major D1 programs are able to fund their BB coaching hires.  We have 5k at hoops games now anyways.

I'd rather have Forbes or Gunning. Otzelberger would be a bad fit here.

Still some players there. Not like what Marv started with.

Sorry, that group is not even close to a middling MWC finish - If he can't get some serious talent in to padd these bench players, UNLV will be fighting with SJSU for 10th place next season

Next season is going to be a rebuilding year even if you bring in Rick Pitino.
