The piss-poor effort should seal Mediocre #marvtoo's fate. I hope he's gone within 48 hours.

Sadly, I think DRF gives him another year. And it's probably because she knows she can't afford to fire him.

Watson destroyed the UNLV backcourt all by himself. Its like such an unfair match up.

He's a good, not great player. The fact that he just dominates the UNLV back court every time out is pretty telling about this UNLV backcourt.

Menzies is a good coach...he put you guys in position to win it...he can't help it that he had to play the team that has whipped...no matter the coach...UNLV 14 out of the last 15 times...I know ya'll are upset...but you need to keep this coach...there is nothing out there to choose...and another change for the sake of change is not good for your program...consistency in coaching and recruiting is what's needed....

Considering the dumpster fire Marv inherited when he was hired at the midnight hour, he has done a solid job IMO. And while they're overall record took a step back this year, for the second straight year he has posted a Y2Y 4-game improvement in conference. And that's being down two players who log big minutes.

The focus on attendance seems to be their barometer of success, and Marv just doesn't have enough sex appeal for lower Nevadians. Maybe it's a Vegas thing - there's always a hotter hooker right around the next corner.

Anyone who honestly thinks (or wants) Menzies will still be UNLV's coach on Sunday is going to be very disappointed. The writing is on the wall and has been for a while now, his ceiling is too low, his coaching career proves it. The thousands upon thousands of Rebel fans that were pissed off when he was hired ended up having good reason.

UNLV is making the right decision. Menzies stays, the Rebels go into next year with ZERO excitement surrounding the team and crowds that would be bad for high schools teams.  Menzies goes, and unless they screw up the new hire royally (no way the new admins make the same mistake as the last ones), a massive amount of pissed off Rebel fans will return and the excitement level will be way up.

Anyone not named Pitino and Matta and I guarantee you the excitement level will be nothing like you clearly are expecting.

Name a coach that "drives up attendance" just simply by being hired?

This fan base wasn't even all that impressed with the Beard hire. Half the clownshow didn't even know who he was.

All is well, For Rice is gone.

First off, that game yesterday was the worst game I've watched in person in a long time.  Neither team played well, SDSU was able to convert a few more buckets down the stretch.  Really pushed home the point of just how far the MWC has fallen from 5-10 years ago.  The basketball in this conference is just not good.  Really need SDSU, UNM, and UNLV to stop playing around and get legit coaches back on their sidelines. Loved talking with fans from other schools.  Love going to the MWT even if UNLV lays a turd like yesterday.  As for Menzies and the future of UNLV basketball, we will turn a new page in the next couple of days.  Excited for what can be.  Let's just hope UNLV doesn't screw this up.  It is all right there for the taking.  I will say if MM is still the coach a week from now, that is not a good thing for UNLV or the MWC.

With all due respect, we understand it takes more than 30 months to evaluate a coach. You guys seem live in this bubble that Jesus Clipboard Christ himself - JC the HC - is someday going to descend from the heavens and coach you guys up to your next natty... someday... Consider:

- You're trending up - a +4 win differential in conference, Y2Y over three seasons now.

- You lost two of your most critical players to injuries from this years squad.

- And Marv should get a pass on Y1 because the clown car that is your front office brought him in lieterally at the midnight hour with what - two? - recruits on your roster.

Y'all need some Rtialin. Like all the Ritalin. Nothing good comes easy - Viejas wasn't built in a day, you know... or even three years.

1. Sure we trended up by +4 wins in the worst year this conference has ever had RPI wise.  Our Kenpom rating was actually better last year and it's the second worst in UNLV history since Kenpom began only beating out Menzies first year.  In fact, Menzies' teams hold 3 or the 4 worst kenpom ratings in UNLV history.  We didn't beat any team in conference with a .500 record or better and also only beat 3 teams total that finished with a .500 or better, but you go ahead and think that those +4 wins in a sharmin soft schedule is improvement.  Stats say otherwise.

2. Juiston played for us early on and was non existent as a #1 option.  In fact, the Rebels actually got better when they were forced to go small.  As for Dembele, not even close to a critical player on this team.

3.  Marvin got a pass for the first year.  No one denies that.  He doesn't for that last two.  He doesn't for the weak scheduling.  He doesn't for no fans showing up.  This is a money issue.  UNLV can not afford to have the basketball program not make money for the athletic department.  Marvin is not a bad guy or even a bad coach.  He is just not right for UNLV.

Not sure about completely getting a pass on year one. He brought in projects and ran off Poyser and Dwayne Morgan who were better than any of these freshmen projects he brought in.

There’s 5 freshmen that he brought in that year that’s contributed absolutely NOTHING to UNLV basketball. Coupet, Djorde, Baxter (bailed the program), Zion Morgan,  Dembele.

We STILL have too many guys parked on the bench and still wasting schollies.

You mean the five freshman he brought in with, like, 4 hours to recruit?

Like I said, cut the man some slack. It takes time to build a program, and Marv has had two full recruiting classes and whatever you want to call the 16 minutes he had to recruit in Y1.

You sound like one of the Las Vegas media guys that are desperately trying to save Marv right now.

+4 wins, BUT 0-7 vs the top 4 teams with the losses by an average of about 14 points. Just like Poster17 said, the MW is statistically the worst its ever been, sad but true. Just like the Vegas media, you just throw that out there without telling the whole story.

Our 17 wins were against teams with an average rating of around 240, and we only had 1 decent win all year, ONE. Menzies schedules down to try and pad his win totals and STILL can't succeed.

Plus, we've already seen what Menzies can do when given time.  The vast majority of Rebel fans have higher expectations than that. After the last 2 coaches, most Rebel fans would be perfectly happy with a coach that could get us to where Kruger had us.
