This is going to kill online universities and liberal arts colleges

Anybody who borrows $60K to get a degree in education is an idiot. Go to a public in state university, live with your parents, get a summer job, do something but by God don't borrow $60,000 to get a job that pay $37,000 a year.

Now it would make sense to borrow $60,000 to get a degree in Chemical Engineering. One could also argue its ok to borrow $60K to get a degree in accounting and earn a CPA license, or get a degree in Finance, or Pharmacy. Those fields can generate enough income to repay the loan.

Pharmacy degrees are doctorates now and take an average of 8 years.  Also the schools are very expensive now. Most of my interns have over $150k in debt and many as high as $250k.  On top of that the market is severely saturated with most of these kids only getting part time or prn "as needed" positions (if any at all) right out of school. I highly recommend not going into pharmacy right now.

Or we could go full on some socialist/communist countries route where colleges have only X slots open based on the need for those occupations.  And if you aren't one of the Top 10 in Art History or Astronomy appointees, sorry you have to get a practical degree.

Become a pharmacist? No thanks. That has to be the most boring professional job known to man plus you don't sit down for even one minute and just how much discretion do you have? Maybe I'm naive but that job seems to be nothing more than a glorified clerk.

Ouch. Lol, it does get repetitive especially with retail basing everything on numbers. Spend most of my time double checking the techs work and spending time on the phone with prescribers about errors, drug drug interactions, or therapeutic changes. Also insurance companies...

Perhaps not worthless....maybe worth 10% of a technical or medical arts degree.  The credit hours paid should reflect this.

Jack, could you list what degrees you think are liberal arts and what degrees you think are technical or "medical arts"?

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

If you get a degree that doesn't include 2 years of math, at least a semester of Organic chemistry including the lab and the pre-reqs, at least a year of physics including all the labs, you wasted your time.

You could probably add a computer programming or coding requirement to the above as well in this day and age.

I would also consider a statistics class fairly mandatory especially after watching so many of the posters on this board completely befuddled by them.

Your engineering degree is a bit different than a history degree....or haven't you noticed?

Jack, you didn't answer my question (and you also don't seem to understand the value of being an excellent writer which is... funny).

You are so black and white, typical engineer.   Valuable...STEM jobs, nursing, med techs of all kinds, business, trades, etc.  Stupid  without and applicable masters,: English, journalism, history, polsci, philosophy religions, race, gender studies etc.

Both the school and student should be accountable for the waste of taxpayer money and time..

I have a degree in Accounting. I had to take college calculus, and two statistics courses , but no chemistry, physics, or computer programming. My degree has served me well. Got a job right out of college with a great firm and still working in the field.

Trump's buddies will benefit from students having to rely and take private instead of gov't loans. This will discourage working or middle class prospective students. The White House is doing this to restrict social mobility. You think thr elite circle in there wants poor whites/browns/blacks etc moving up? Nothing this administration has done, has it done to help the working or middle classes.

My degree is in Information Technology. I had to take college and business statistics and an introductory physics class, along with programming. But since my degree didn't originate from an on-campus location, I guess it isn't worth anything.

I think of degrees like accounting as job training.  Like say welding school or pharmacy school, or any other job training it is for a specific job and as long as there is a job market for you it is a great option.  Plus you have the math background to evaluate most business situations.   Yet unlike someone who has the background I suggest you are not capable of assessing the properties of so many things from chemicals and their uses and dangers.

Far superior education to someone without your math background.

I have taken classes from the internet including a Harvard astronomy class.

The one thing I know is they are not rigorous, it is easy to cheat the tests.  Lack of access to resources is a problem for most.

The one thing you don't know is what you missed.

I too like the idiot button, however I used it mostly to troll a poster or two.  I like the beer button better.  I consider I came out ahead.

I'm the black and white one when you immediately pivot to a completely black and white view of what a degrees are valuable or not?

Jack, you are a dipshit.

All exams are proctored, and WGU has a vast resource library. Face it, you're an out of touch boomer.

Proctored exams are a joke.   As is a resource library for the totality of your resources.   You have a degree in "information technology and you have never been in a clean room.  You have never seen a mainframe computer, the inside of a phone or a tablet, let alone have any clue how they are constructed.  You have never done anything that couldn't be done over a bad internet connection.   You have a hobby not a degree.

If you cant tell the difference in value  between an engineering de gr ee and  political science degree you just like to argue...

I am sure you want your kids to go out and get a valuable german degree.  ..at least they will be able to write good.
