Well It's a Good Thing They Changed the Name To "Climate Change"

30 or 40 years ago someone would have been sitting in your office and telling you cigarettes don't cause lung cancer that that was just a hoax.  If we had the internet back then just imagine the idiocy.

Skepticism is healthy to have as a scientist but eventually you need to bring facts, analysis, and evidence to support your skepticism or people are going to say "where's the beef?!?"

I do think that having a discussion on benefits and costs is important to have because there are real and potentially significant trade offs.  This dude may have something but he needs to be able to convince other skeptical scientists with his evidence.  If he can't do that they he is an outlier, I suppose, outside of the overwhelming consensus.  I am sure there are physicists who say gravity doesn't exist but they need to be able to get other scientists to agree or bring something to the table.

The problem I have is that there is a significant number of people who will just deny the evidence but won't bring any "beef" of their own.  It is almost as if they just want to be able to say "F Off" to anyone who would dare suggest to them to turn off the A/C and lights when they aren't home.  Paying a few pennies more for gasoline is "socialism."  Using more energy efficient light bulbs is "authoritarian lefts."  If they cannot celebrate and wallow gluttony they are being infringed upon.  The problem is, however, that we have to live in the same space as these people who are being very inconsiderate and dangerous roommates!

The problem I have is big talking believers that talk a good talk but don’t bring any “beef” of their own.  Please enlighten us all of the great strides you’ve personally made to reduce your carbon footprint.  I suspect you’re just another big talking believer that doesn’t do jack squat.  I’d happily compare with you any day of the week.  I bet my 4,500 square foot home runs on less energy than your concrete box in Costa Rica.

Why am I not surprised Conturd doesn’t understand one of the most basic, and heavily proven scientific theories of them all? What a moron.

From an idiot that only seems to understand 1 thing in life:  SJSU sucks

If we want to know how bad climate change is on the SJSU campus, we'll get back with you. Until then, suck on with SJSU.

Oh, I know it’s tough to be a big baby when not everyone blindly believes what you’re saying. But the fact is there’s a lot of research that questions the sheep mentality. But the media is just like you and have declared the discussion is over. Any data that challenges their beliefs is wrong, so why report wrong info?

Please cite some peer reviewed “research”. Just saying a bunch of dumb shit doesn’t make it true.

Follow the money. Many of these scientists benefit from government research grants. In other words they have a stake in promoting man made climate change. They aren’t going to stop the gravy train.

I have thought this same thing for a long time. The only way to keep the govt cash rolling in is to scare the shit out of everybody.

You should read his books. Half of his book "Cool It" are citations of original articles so he does bring the beef as you say. There was also overwhelming consensus at one recent point for hormone replacement therapy for instance. Not so much now. With respect to what has been brought up here regarding overwhelming evidence, more than 63% of the more than 1200 articles regarding anthropogenic climate change has shown no statistical signifance. Of the remaining studies where potential affects are shown, 97% of those authors believe in it.  I like reading Lomborg because he isn't a denier but has more reasonable ways of addressing human suffering at a lower cost than the knee jerk activists want. This debate would be much more productive if the evidence is allowed to stand on its own rather than sensationalized.
