The entire WCC is a dump save Gonzaga and maybe St. Mary’s. Small-time.

That might be true, if you were talking about Stockton, CA (the WCC's version of Fresno, CA),

....but as a conference, basketball is actually not doing too bad.

Especially, when comparing the WCC to the MWC.

Sagarin Conference Rating
WCC 8
MWC 10

Teams in top 100 of NET Ratings
WCC 5 of 10 (50%)
MWC 3 of 11 (27%)

Teams in top 100 of Ken Pom

WCC 5 of 10 (50%)
MWC 3 of 11 (27%)

Those numbers are bullshit when your supposed 2nd best team (BYU) is 1-3 vs the MWC.

One current starter (Emery) wasn't eligible to play in the games against MWC games.  Another current starter (Baxter) is a freshman who was fresh off a mission and not really in playing shape to start the season.  He is playing a lot better now than he did against the nonconference slate.

If you look at Sagarin's new Recent ratings (weights recent play more heavily than earlier games), you'll see BYU is at #49 in the country, higher than any MWC team save Nevada.

One good season does not make a good conference. The WCC has been rated behind the MWC for years. This year was an anomaly. Things will go back to the norm next year.

Honestly, the only metric that really matters when comparing conferences is total NCAA tourney bids, by years.

Neither the WCC, nor the MWC have been much to write home about over the past 5 or so years.  They've both done OK with NIT bids.   But the prestige is with NCAA tourney bids, and NCAA tourney credits.   Gonzaga is probably the biggest deal, given their success.

Right now, both the WCC and MWC are projected to be 1-bid leagues.  The MWC probably has a better chance of being a 2-bid league, since Nevada will be easier to beat than Gonzaga in the conference tourney.

USF 82, BYU 63 in San Francisco

UCSB 73, USF 71 in Santa Barbara.

@#1Stunner, you're better than that.  I hope you respond in round 2 vs the Dons in Provo.

Is this the year that that the Big West wins an NCAA tournament game?   How long has it been?

Not that long. 2016. Hawaii beat Kal.

Before that though, it was 2005 when UOP beat Pitt, if I recall correctly.

I'm just pointing out we were able to fend off USF while BYU struggled with them.

The crux of your fans frustration with the WCC is that you're not dominating like you expected to.

Dominate?

BYU basketball has never been a dominant program.

And the only school in the WCC BYU can't really match up with in the WCC is Gonzaga, but neither can really any other school in the Country.

Hawaii is definitely the high upside program of the Big West.   That conference hadn't won a tourney game in decades before Hawaii joined.

The NCAA counts First Four wins as Tourney wins.  So technically the BW has three NCAA wins this decade with Hawaii sandwiched between UC Davis (2017) and Cal Poly (2014)

But this is about the Church League.  No WCC team outside of Gonzaga or Saint Mary's has won an NCAA game since 2008.  And your other non-triumvirate buddies have just two wins total since 2000.

They won games in 2004 and 2005. That's not "decades"
