Problems in the USA that are bigger than mass shootings and illegal immigration

Recommended Posts

I wish I could make this a POLL where each respondent could add a question to the POLL. I mean, I'm making it so I could edit it and add them, but no.

If we get enough of these, I could make a BIGGEST PROBLEM DERBY where we vote on them and come up with the biggest problem in America (provided interest, as well).

at any rate:

  • Suicide
  • Criminal justice sentencing - punish vs. rehabilitate for victimless crimes
  • Lack of investment in infrastructure of tomorrow
  • Lack of investment in skills development outside of white collar skills
  • Lack of infrastructure maintenance
  • Increasing monopolization/trust level corporatocracy- to big to fail banks, 2 companies having 90% of internet ad revenue, phone companies trying to re-create Bell, and so on
  • Lack of investment in basic research
  • Why no moon base?
  • Lack of civic engagement at the state government level - from the parties not being organized to push their platform at a state level to voters not caring to generally underwhelming talent to vote for

All right guys, yer up

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

Lack of mental institutions

One of the worst things Ronald Reagan ever did was the massive federal deinstitutionalization after repealing the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA). Homelessness, illicit prescription drug use, and violent incidents involving the mentally ill exploded afterward and cost the country an unfathomable amount of money.

You guys have already addressed a lot of things I think to be issues, but here's my non-exhaustive list:

Endless Overseas Wars

Infrastructure (both things like bridges and roads, as well as an out of date ATC system, power grids, among other things)

The War on Drugs

Farm and Ranch subsidies

Gaslighting "Journalists"

Obesity

Water Resources

Ballooning Debt: Public, Corporate and Consumer

Shitty Music

Social Media Addiction

Prison Industrial Complex

Hyperpartisanship

Continual neglect of Nuclear Power

Continued death of conversation/nobody reads anymore

Monolithic Tech Companies that basically serve the government

The Government

1. Healthcare - many factors within this subject.

The US is ranked #29 in this study sandwiched between the Czech Republic and Croatia.

I'm sorry, but these lists are laughable.  Could the U.S. do better?  Sure.  The next time you have a serious illness, head to Columbia, Slovenia, Cyprus, or Morocco to get better health care.  Wait...what?
