Granderson Facing Felony Sexual Assault Charges

We will wait for the alleged facts to come out but this is very bad for the look of the University of Wyoming following similar misdemeanor charges against Ghaifan.  No way the charges are resolved before the draft and it looks like Granderson will go from a 3-4 rounder to undrafted potentially.

Always heart breaking to see student athletes representing your program committing such heinous crimes. A former LB of ours was just found guilty to 5 counts of rape. Not a good look for the AD or USU.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

You’ve got a ways to go to match Baylor

Jeez, wyoming trying to Baylor

Nope, if UW was trying to be Baylor these alleged incidences would have occurred 2-4 years ago coming to light only after an attempted athletic department, coaching staff or university cover up.

Very sad to hear if true not only his draft status is ruined but his career. Not many employers hire people convicted of these crimes.

If shown to be true the only thing I feel sad for is the victim.  As far as his draft status and career goes, screw it!

Oh I agree, I was just pointing out how someone with so much talent can throw it all away.

Granderson previously made a not-guilty plea back in April, when faced with one count of third-degree sexual assault and another count of sexual battery. The submitted changes reduced the sexual assault charge to a count of unlawful contact, and would have avoided a jury trial scheduled for Monday, July 15.

However, the judge presiding over the case rejected that motion and sentenced Granderson to immediately serve six months in jail, remanding Granderson before he left the courtroom. Potter reported that Granderson was given an additional one-year jail sentence to be suspended with a yea r of supervised probation, but this will not take effect until after he has served the initial six-month sentence.

The case stems from an incident last November, when two women stayed overnight at Granderson’s off-campus apartment. They claimed that he touched them inappropriately without their consent, prompting an investigation and these court proceedings.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Also today, former Boise State and Baylor DE has conviction overturned:

Not sure how this all works legally.  Crime occurred in 2013.  Convicted in 2015 to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation plus sex offender status.  He surely is finished with the jail sentence and is halfway through probation.  Can they try him again if he already served the time?

The Mountain Division are a bunch of rapists. No wonder BYU is staying independent.

No worries Wyoming, the Big Sky will still take you.

Ok…I believe it means it goes back to the DA, who has the option to retry the case.  As it stands now, he goes back to having an arrest on his record, but there is no longer a conviction, which means he’s no longer on probation nor considered a sex offender.  If retried and convicted again with the same sentence, he would have the time served to this point, and it would simply pick up as if it were suspended.  If acquitted, things get interesting from a civil standpoint for the DA and state, but none of the stuff he currently faces would be the case any longer.

Short answer: they can try him again, but if convicted again, the sentence he has served to this point wouldn’t have to be served again.  That would fall under double jeopardy statutes.

Is it fitting or irony that possibly the most versatile word in the English language is also of unknown origin?

It was overturned by a higher court meaning the case goes back to a lower court who can completely drop the case or try and re-convict. If convicted again all time served for the previous convicted will be subtracted from what ever he’s sentenced to.

Warbow, you are too much man.

I guess it's a good thing he isn't black and gay in Wyoming.

He might be serving out his sentence tied to a fence post.

On the other hand if he was black and gay, he might not be in this mess...

Of course they would.  They'd jump on the opportunity.
