Air Force at SJSU

Recommended Posts

State of the Union for AF Basketball (vs SJSU) and Section 8 plus post  game highlights over BSU
(More at http://ricksfalconreview.blogspot.com/ )

Brent Briggeman of the Gazette takes an excellent look at what is happening with this AF men's team and it parallels the post game comments after the win over BSU during Jim Arthur's  interview of Coach P and Lavelle Scottie.  Will be interesting to watch this team as we head into these next two road games and then come back home.  The potential is there for this team to excel and remember, there is only  1 senior on this team (Purvis Louder) and he is really playing less than 4-5 minutes a game 'if' that much.

Upcoming game AF at SJSU may be the biggest road game of the season.  Why?  Air Force is on a role playing differently but has not found that win on the road. Why is this game so important?  AF finds themselves tied for 6th place in the MWC only .5 games out of 5th (and the first 5 teams get a bye in the MWC tournament).  So what, why is 'this game vs SJSU' so important?  Air Force must win on the road and do so versus the team at the bottom of the standings.  San Jose State 3-15 (0-6MWC) and aching for a win.  The proverbial trap game for any time riding a high.  The Falcons must focus, focus and focus again and MUST win this game.  Then they stay on the road and play at San Diego State, a place they have won only twice in 15 years (2003-2004 and 2004-2005), a team AF shocked by beating them at Clune two weeks ago 62-48 and a team AF leads in the standings (by that same .5 of a game).

Matchup on paper shows Air Force winning most categories vs San Jose State.  But the biggest key/obstacle for the Falcons?   Playing on the road.  The Falcons actually have gone 3-3 when playing at SJSU and it is a must for this season and team to make that 4-3.  A bigger challenge be the "must defend the arc" versus Noah Baugman.  He is SJSU's 3rd leading scorer but is shooting 50% on 44-87 from the arc.  He is only 4-15 3pt on the road in the last two games BUT WAS 7-10 at home in their last match on their floor (loss to USU).  Must defend him outside the arc but with a caveat.....you focus too much on him and their two big men (leading scorer 6'11" Steadman 12ppg and 4th leading scorer Barry (9ppg) will bury you inside.

If we (Air Force) continue to get scoring from the backcourt (Walker and Joyce) to go along with Scottie and Swan inside and points off the bench then the Falcons will be in this game to win at the final buzzer!

Go Falcons

Nice post, but I think your Falcons will win it before the final buzzer. Hope I'm wrong though.

Spartans lead the Falcons at halftime, 31-19.

SJSU didn't commit a turnover in the first 16+ minutes (they average 17 per game). But they finished the first half with 4 turnovers. Air Force also has 4.
