Kellen Moore Dallas offensive coordinator?

Recommended Posts

Not that big of a surprise actually. The guy was a great college QB with minimal talent. He did it with his head. Why wouldn’t he become an NFL OC?

The kid was a savant in understanding and dissecting opposing defenses at Boise State. His hobby was studying college and pro defenses as early as junior high school. He had a huge collection of tapes and playbooks for college and NFL teams. He had the Boise State playbook memorized before he took a snap in college. I doubt a defense and it’s variations exist that he hasn’t studied and knows the best way to attack it.

Also, I think the Rams head coach has proven age isn’t a factor within reason if the coach knows what they are doing.

It would be a huge surprise to everybody in DFW.  No one's quite sure what Moore actually does, especially given the fact that Prescott didnt exactly make a quantum leap under Moore's "tutelage".  It would have more to do with Jason Garrett taking over the offense himself than it is having anything to do with Moore.  And notice the actual article - its about hiring Kitna to take the QB job, before they actually hire an OC.  Garrett would be the OC in this scenario.  Moore would just have the fancy title.  This is just another example of the Cowboys dysfunction - just last week Garrett said publically there wasnt going to be any coaching changes....until the Jones boys corrected him.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

It wouldn't be a surprise that he would be an NFL OC, but it would be surprising how fast it happened... if it does happen.

Prescott does not have good pocket presence and that is something you either have or you don't. Kellen did. Plus, quick release, Prescott needs to work on it but again, you either have it or you don't. There is only so much Kellen can do. But Kellen is an offensive savant and knows defenses too!

Regardless of how much knowledge you have, if can’t convey it or your QB doesn’t have the smarts to pick it up, or the ability to make quick reads and adjustments at the LOS, you need to change QBs. However, I don’t think that’s the case with Prescott who did get better this year. I thought his main problem was lack of accuracy. Also, Dallas seemed to stall in the red zone a lot this year. Witten retiring hurt their offense.

A good OC needs to understand the strengths and weaknesses of his players, particularly the QB, and install the type of offense and call plays that gives them the best chance of success.

This.  I'm not in a position to know what Moore has to offer.  But some around here who are in a position to know arent sure either.  He's been in coaching exactly a year - thats the primary WTF here.

The comparison to McVay is invalid.  McVay had 6 years in coaching before the Skins made him their OC.  And he had 3 years there when the Rams hired him.  And coaching is part of his family tree - Grandpa was a HC and executive in the NFL.  Youth AND experience.

Do a little digging on Moores background. It will give you a better understanding of this kids knowledge about football and why he was 50-3 as a starter in college football despite having limited physical skills. Incidentally those three losses were by less than 7 points combined.

Five points - 1 point 2x TCU and 3 points UNR.  Moore was the OC his senior year!

None of which tells us about his coaching ability.  Some of the smartest guys in the sport have been some of the worst coaches.  Some Cowboy fans would probably tell you Jason Garrett is one of them.

And knowing or not knowing isnt going to change things.  The Cowboys will find a way to screw it up.

And yes, I'm familiar with the losses.  Benefitted from a couple of them.  Pasadena is lovely in the winter.

So I'll pass on the homework assignment....

Did you ever see Jesus raise his voice?

I did. He was doing his usual "water into wine" trick. The wine came out as a White Zinfandel, JC was going for a rich Burgundy.

He was pissed, blamed it on the local water.
