#10 Nevada vs Air Force

Air Force at #10 Nevada

Big game for our AF Falcons after back-to-back wins versus San Diego State and UNLV. While AF surprised the MWC with a 106-88 win over previously undefeated (in the MWC) UNLV, Nevada walked away from a one point win on the road at Boise State.

While AF executed their best in this early MWC season (highlights and thoughts at https://bit.ly/2TYnA0p ) it wasn't so easy in the final minutes for Nevada in their last game. With just 4.5 seconds remaining Cody Martin hit the game winning 3pt shot for the Pack to win over BSU. To put that win in perspective, Nevada led by double digits at the half and with less than 2 minutes remaining Boise State tied the game and 10 seconds later hit a bucket to take a 2 point lead. Cody Martin had not hit a 3 pointer in nearly a month so this was a 'timely' make for the win. With the win and the UNLV loss, Nevada (4-1 MWC) takes a half game lead over three teams tied for second at 3-1 (FSU/BSU/UNLV). (Full MWC standings at http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/standings/_/group/44 )

This is going to be a tough matchup for the Falcons playing at a tough venue and against a top 10 team. Last year with similar but different rosters Nevada won the only meeting between the two teams on the road. Playing at Clune, AF was down by 1 at the half 40-41 and a 2 point game with 12 minutes to play but losing by 11. While Nevada is as physical and athletic as they were last year with no significant graduates and adding transfers, the Falcons may actually be more physical and bigger this year than last. No doubt the speed that Nevada plays and how AF can handle the defensive pressure will be key for the Falcons to stay 'in the game'. Back to back games against two physical teams in UNLV and SDSU will help the Falcon's in their prep and play, but the athleticism inside has been upped by more than a notch with this Nevada roster and will be tough for the Falcons.

Matchup will be challenging physically with Nevada normally averaging...……….(More at http://ricksfalconreview.blogspot.com/  with matchup stats and keys)

What a terrible call by the officials on that jump ball with Johnson.
