The Vice Thread --- Whisk(e)y, other spirits, beer, wine, and cigars

Ho ho ho, ho. Merry Christmas to me.

IMO the best Lagavulin expression I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy, with a balance and complexity I've only experienced in one other Islay. Really wish I had bothered to sample the first two releases of this collaboration.

You should be searching for Blanton’s SFTB, Gold and ER in the silver cylinder.

Also, Wild Turkey 12 year ( not available in the USA ).

I grabbed this McFarlane’s Reserve 13 year barrel finish for my friend’s birthday.  I was pinched for time so didn’t read through this thread.  The whiskey specialist at Total Wine said it was the best bottle they have there (better than some $250 bottles behind glass).  It was $100 and seems like a somewhat unknown brand.  Has anyone here tried this?

Can't speak to that particular bourbon, but I've enjoyed every wine-cask finished bourbon and scotch I've tried to date.

Got me reading the reviews, and I just might pick up a bottle myself. Will be interested to hear your thoughts when you try it.

It's a bit expensive but I highly recommend glendronich allardice 18. It has the peat you would expect from a speyside distillery, but muted with a nice backdrop of sweetness from sherry which is present but not overwhelming.

ETA: The 18 is definitely the best of their lineup. 13 is not enough sherry, 15 is too much. 18 is the baby bear of the bunch - juuuuust right.

I left it with him in LA.  I will have to ask him when he tries it.  Hopefully it’s not used for whiskey sours.  The guy that worked at Total Wine does tastings for his friends and said this is his go to.

Another year, another Christmas with scotch. But this time for a newbie drinker, lol.

$55 for 800ml of scotch varieties was a pretty good deal, imo. Only downside is there's no notes about distillery or precise location (thanks, Costco!), so it'll be a challenge to find a good "next bottle" after finding a favorite...

I would love to have that. Sometime I get confused between the regions. Be nice to compare a speyside and islay. Great find!

Pretty decent quality, especially for the price! Enjoying them all, but the highland was just OK... But still good enough to keep around.
