I'm not sure what you mean by that so will just say this. My PT secretary is a staunch Catholic who never misses mass yet she "pisses" on the church hierarchy regularly. My PT secretary before her was similarly a staunch Catholic and she often criticized the church hierarchy as well. Both women are salt of the earth people who have stuck with the church through thick and thin but that doesn't mean they excuse its failings.

I'm a Catholic that never misses mass and I'm critical of the Catholic Church hierarchy too.  The hierarchy deserves criticism.  That is different than K Harris believing that a person's membership in either the men's organization (Knights of Columbus) or the women's organization (Council of Catholic Women) should be a litmus test to public office.  That's an attack on the organization and its' members.

You and Smlt have taken my response, which was about attacking the Catholic Church vs. its' members and are turning into the Catholic Hierarchy vs. its' members.  There's an important difference.

I think you're misunderstanding which definition of "church" We are using. It's the one that is used as shorthand by most people for "heirarchy."

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

I mean it was a pun, all of which are bad enough to deserve a facepalm

You were one of the people that I was talking about that have no sense of humor, particularly when it’s politically incorrect (aka snowflake incorrect). The fact that it involved a Democrat that was gay, to you it meant that it’s off limits for any kind of ridicule.

Sometimes things are so obviously funny, you just can’t avoid going with it. If you met a lady that was a sheriff deputy and her name was Ima Bahdkuapp (obviously pronounced “I’m a bad cop”) most folks will find it extremely hard to resist the power of sophomoric humor they learned so well when they were younger.

I thought the context in this thread was about K Harris' attack on membership in the men's Catholic organization.  This explains the misunderstanding.

I know what puns are

Most of them make you cringe. That's the nature of humor they are.

Farces make you laugh at the target, satire makes you smirk, self-deprecation makes you laugh with the target, dark humor makes you smugly satisfied, puns make you cringe/facepalm

It is what it is supposed to do

Ok, that's it. Further lessons on human norms will have to wait

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

Like I said, you have no sense of humor. In the “getting married” section of a local newspaper I once saw a couple getting married which gave this poor woman the new name of Debra Dickgraber. OK, so there aren’t two b’s, but it still looks close enough to a girl that likes to grab certain things. I’m sure you find that just boring and un-intellectually stimulating to the fountain of knowledge between your ears. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Just a last name on its own? Whatever Convert. Sure, there are glasscocks and boners and orrells galore. It's the first name tht makes the joke

An adjective first name plus that? Now that would be humor. Randy dickgraber? Chastity Dickgraber? Unique Dickgraber? Yes, yes, yes.

I am not Catholic, but I imagine there are many Catholics that don't mind criticizing the Church or hearing criticism of the Church with other Catholics.  They might not take it so well from people who are not Catholic or from people who are hostile to religion and religious organizations.......Which gets back to the original comment about trying to piss on the Church but somehow miss the members.

You think I read the threads before commenting? For shame!

Three years after fighting a surprisingly competitive Democratic primary race against Hillary Clinton, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is making another run for the White House.

Two sources with direct knowledge of his plans told Yahoo News that Sanders, an independent and self-described “democratic socialist,” plans to announce his presidential bid imminently. While Sanders has been mulling a bid for months, one of the sources said he was emboldened by early polls of the race that have consistently showed him as one of the top candidates in a crowded Democratic primary field. In particular, the source said Sanders was heartened to see numbers indicating he is one of the leading candidates among African American and Latino voters, two groups he was perceived as struggling with in 2016.

The source also alluded to a spate of recent polls that show Sanders as the most popular politician in the country. They attributed Sanders’ strength in the polls to the base and name recognition he built with the prior presidential bid.

I understand that guys like you and pokebball who are still invested in an organized religion don't agree with me but over the years I've come to think that the hierarchy of the average religion is composed of as many self-serving hypocrites as the average corporation. Call me naive but I find that highly offensive and it's among the reasons I'm not sure I can ever become a member of an organized religion again - although in speaking with a young woman at my local Starbucks about her religion, Unitarian Universalist, I am considering checking that one out since it seems very different than what I've been exposed to during my life.

Boom goes the dynamite.

Dude, any girl that voluntarily marries into a name like that is funny as hell. Either she’s an obsessed dick grabber, or she’s totally in love with the guy and is willing to deal with having the name.

Although there are good, honest and honorable people in corporations and any bureaucracy (including religious) doing great work, overall, humans will always find a way to fvck things up. And the more there is, the more fvcked up things get.

I think you are kind of missing the point.  If you are going to accept or even consider criticism of something that is important to you (not just religion), then you need to have some level of trust in the source.  Again, the original comment was someone hoping to piss on the Catholic Church, but somehow miss the members.  It is not all about the aim, but the person doing the pissing too.  It could be the same for political parties, college football fan bases, or members of the SPCA.  I am far more aligned with Wyovanian when it comes to politics.  I disagree with nearly everything HappyCamper posts about politics.  However, I would probably more carefully read criticism of my faith by HappyCamper than by Wyovanian (who seems to have an issue with the LDS church).
