Democrat Thunderdome - 2020 Democratic Candidate Thread

Recommended Posts

Beto and Cory Booker were never serious candidates.  They simply wanted the extra attention they could get by faux running for President.  All these two and a few others like Castro etc. did was take up some space and time.  It was as if they were planted by the big money Dems who run the DNC to get in there to help push the more liberal agenda.
Harris was a serious candidate.  She just doesn't appeal to most people.  I thought she would do better than she did though.  Bernie is Bernie and I think we know what he wants.
Warren is the most scary imo, I think she sincerely believes she knows best about everything in the fact that she would want to control everyone's life as much as possible.  Trump may boast about knowing everything but he isn't out to run your life and tax you to death.  Biden is really imo the only candidate that could beat Trump (and thats a stretch), he wouldn't do anything worthwhile as President and would most likely be a 1 term President.  I don't see a 82 year old being reelected, which is what Biden would be in 2024.  I expect Joe to begin to deteriorate as the campaign goes on.
And the DNC big money donors don't want someone like Tulsi Gabbard or even Buttigieg  to get in there because they think this is the moment they can get a very liberal socialist candidate in there.

Trump is very vulnerable to a true populist on the left.   They can attack him that his only legislative accomplishment was a bigly tax cut for the wealthy.  He is just another corrupt billionaire using the tools of government to line his pockets while telling the rubes he is a populist while low skilled workers in the rust belt fall further behind into opioid dependence and despair.

I’m sure the DNC loves Buttigieg. Not sure why though since he is a garbage candidate.

Who would you consider a true populist on the left? I’m not sure any of the candidates for the Democrats fit that description.

Also, since the wealthy pay the great majority of the taxes, any tax cut is going to moreso benefit the wealthy. Since half the country doesn’t pay any federal income taxes they are going to continue to see federal benefits they don’t contribute to.

And it's the election of the worst president in history by Republicans like you which has given the big money Dems that opportunity.

And don't you dare try to play the Whataboutism card and cite Hillary's support from Democrats in 2016. As some of your cohorts said above, the DNC rigged the 2016 primary to ensure she would win. Did the RNC similarly rig its primary to favor Trump? Hell, no!

When will you staunch Republicans just effing admit it? Our country would be massively better off today if you had nominated John Kasich or Jeb Bush. But no! You had to vote for an arrogant, uncouth, narcissistic wingnut who is in all likelihood also a crook!

So lay off the "X Democrat candidate is scary" BS. Because we only SUSPECT that Warren or others might be a disaster. However, we already KNOW that the POS you voted for fits that category.

Boom goes the dynamite.

Having given it much thought, I think it's all about Buttigieg checking one of the PC boxes while also being a military veteran, a category which is immune from criticism for almost every Republican.

Although he HAS been the chief executive of a city with something like the 856th biggest population in the country.

Boom goes the dynamite.

He’s not as extreme as Sanders or Warren, and not as gaffe prone as Biden. In interviews he comes across as articulate, intelligent, and optimistic.

My parents are in their mid 60s and voted for Gary Johnson last election. I happened to be visiting them when an interview of Buttigieg came on one of those Sunday morning politics programs and they both remarked that “he seems presidential” and had a generally positive view of him after the program ended. Neither has any intention of voting for Trump, so they’re hoping the Democrats don’t board the extreme left crazy train and instead nominate a moderate.

The story so far:

In the beginning the Universe was created.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I dunno, he just comes across as an empty suit to me.

We conservatives had to put up with Obama for eight years and now you have to suffer with Trump for eight years. I didn’t particularly like Obama policies, but I didn’t whine like a little baby like you do about Trump every day.

Stick it, Double S.

In comparison to Mr. Grumpy, Obama was the best president in the history of presidents.

Boom goes the dynamite.

Fair enough. He can come across as too polished and too much of a politician.

WHAT?  LOL   I can't think of a single thing that would be better if one of those guys had been President.  I just don't know why you and so many want the old status quo back.

Trump is the only one talking about making other countries adhere to fair trade, he's the only one trying to enforce US immigration laws.  Trump puts the US Economy first, that is a huge reason unemployment is so low, wages have started to go up more now than in previous dozen years or more, stock market is record highs (and the stock market primarily values future earnings).  Trump is also pulling back from middle east wars.  Trump pushed thru tax cuts that have helped me and millions of people directly.

How about you tell me, what thing that Trump has done has hurt you somehow?  If Trump were thrown out of office tomorrow, what would you specifically gain?

He has sold the country farther down the river than it was by passing huge spending bills while also shoving throw a tax cut that had some unnecessary elements in it. He has raised tariffs, increasing the cost of goods throughout the economy for most Americans while making them pay the taxes for them. He constantly lowers the level of debate through his inarticulate nature, which makes his opponents act just as crazy so that there is no adult in the room. And he’s tied the fortunes of one of the two major party’s to him personally, not what he believes. So we’re poised to probably have a choice between him or a country rallying behind someone saying a $52 trillion government program is just what this country needs for a start

That doesn’t mean Jeb or Kasich wouldn’t suck, they would. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbow unicorn farts either.

Nothing.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

Nothing.

So you want the status quo.  Keep the previous one sided trade we had with China.  Not willing to pay the price to force them into a better trade deal.  Tariffs are a means to an end.  Nothing was going to happen with China without putting some bite into it.  If China had their way they would take several years of going back and forth to make a trade deal to their liking.  Trump forced the issue and China has felt the effects.  Companies are actively moving some operations out of China specifically due to tariffs.
Trump lowers the level of debate - by cutting thru the BS and polit-speech.  The Dems call Trump every nasty thing they can but they can't stand it when he puts it back on them.  And yes Trump has changed the Republican party from a sleepy party of status quo to a much more active party.  Perhaps thats what you hate.

Tariffs are not the only way to pressure China. Taxing your citizens to pressure the Chinese Communist party, that doesn’t have to worry about elections or how a short term policy might remove them from power in a few years, is flat out stupid. The options are never a dichotomy between something stupid and the status quo. Perhaps Trump getting smart people to defend him as if it were is the most harmful thing for me personally.
