Truck

You could look at a big SUV like an excursion, rhino line the back. When I worked as a CMT that was my favorite vehicle over the trucks.

I'd rather drive the truck. They drive pretty much the same and the truck is a lot more useful except for carrying passengers.

I liked the always on all wheel drive instead of rear wheel drive until you manually lock the caps (cheap ass company) and they're a LOT saver in a crash.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

I have had many suburbans too.  Didnt like 100s of miles with tools and crap rattling around in the back...I always imagined a rollover being like ....in a blender full of nuts and bolts.   They are nice in keeping all you stuff dry and secure.

Driving around in an SUV with all the tools and supplies rattling around inside your vehicle is annoying.  If you are a working man you drive a truck.  Just a 1000 times more useful than any other vehicle unless you are carrying passengers and my extended cab can handle 4 people easily for a short trip.  My tools are with me all the time.  If I need to load up a ATV in the back or a refrigerator or construction supplies it is no problem.  I can tow something and go hunting.  Gas is so cheap nowadays that is no deterrent.

My wife has a big SUV we use for vacations and hauling the family.   I couldn't operate without a truck.

My fiancé has an Acura SUV and I have a Ford F-150. It’s a good mix of vehicles as we often utilize her vehicle for leisure travel and my truck for hauling things for the house. Also, my town doesn’t offer trash pickup so we have to haul it to what is known as a “transfer station.” Would hate to transport garbage inside of a car.

We had a grate installed between the lined back and seating front.  Also as cmt, tools were big enough to not rattle or small enough to fit in a bucket which damps the vibrations.  The lower entry in the back made it a lot easier to get heavy equipment/ samples in for me - 3/4 ton trucks are a little high when you're 5'7/5'8. The bigger seat area made the whole vehicle as an office thing work better too and fit more concrete cylinders (transporting cylinders on a seat means you lose less strength due to vibrations and are supposed to be climate controlled somewhat, the back of the SUV was a lot smoother than the bed of a pickup).

Here's my favorite truck, a 2007 Pierce Enforcer Pumper.

*knocks on wood* I've racked up 140k miles on my 2008 Mustang and it's held up fine. The only issues I've had was to replace the plastic seal to fix a coolant leak and I replaced the actuator that caused a loud clicking sound when I used my air conditioning or defrost. My parents had a 2007 Ford F-250 and that thing had constant problems. The turbo blew out on them 3 times before my dad finally had enough and got rid of it.

You had a rattle trap that wasn't useful for any real work.  No room for supplies no room for equipment and if you wanted a pleasant vehicle to drive in you had to unload all your tools.  It doesn't sound like you had enough tools to do anything anyway if they fit in a bucket.

I tried it, it was dumb.

I keep things a long time, including trucks and expect to get 10 + trouble free yrs out of them so I buy new.

After having a dozen or so Chev/GMC 1/2 tons in the same configuration at work, my last one, a 2011 w 98k easy miles required $3800 on engine repairs last winter.  After going to the last AF game in Laramie, the tranny gave it up.  that truck is gone....but overall I had pretty good luck w chevys.

Last dodge I had went over 175k,  only rqd a clutch, fuel pump and distributor cap.   Last few fords I had were turds,...the new truck, a basic Dodge 1500 4x4 w a hemi and tow pkg.  Will see.

Vehicle purchasing is one of the most painful things I do and hate it.  Talked the sales manager down to the point he said someone else will pay the tag price and he was right. .  I used to buy through Enterprise fleet and got great deals but no longer buy enough volume.

The full size truck market has been so damn competitive that there’s really not a whole lot that separates the Ram 1500, F150 and Silverado 1500, as they’ve entered a bit of an arms race. (Toyota is keeping the Tundra fairly status quo at the moment). It just depends on your preference when I comes to towing, payload, comfort, fuel economy, etc. Generally speaking, for 2019, Ram leads in max towing, F150 leads in economy and comfort, and Silverado is the most well rounded.

The bitch of it is, they’re toying with so many new engine & transmission combos, that reliability is a wild card.

The one issue I had with my F-150 is it would catch a little with the 10 speed automatic when I would get up to around 40 mph. I took it back to the service center at the dealership and they put some updated code in which fixed it. Have had zero problems since.

You must really hate capitalism!  Who are you to suggest a vehicle should last 10+ years?  How will companies rake in profits with longevity like that?

Be happy if your truck doesn't get recalled in the first five years.  By year six, be a good capitalist and buy new again.  The goal is to follow the Apple model - make crappy products that are designed to fail to keep you paying top dollar repeatedly in the shortest possible time.  Car manufacturers don't release barely modified new models every year just so you can look at them and go "meh".

Your opinion isn't important. Your wallet and buying power is.  Be a good consumer and pay the tag price.  And if you don't work exceedingly hard, but have the very best education money and family can buy, and have the right contacts, perhaps you can get into the top 1% of a company, where the real money is.  Until then, be a good cog and know your place!

Stop whining like a communist!  You call yourself a conservative?  You can't be a Republican supporter with that kind of anti-business crap!

Thanks for the pep talk Comrade Fan, it has been a while.  It is good to be reminded of my true purpose in life.  I plan to keep my nose to the grindstone for 15 months and I can collect my 35 year gift, retirement gift, go to Bridges on the company tab, enjoy my pension, 401K, and socialism benefits of social security and Medicare! Damn slave drivers messed up my life.

The company you work for still gives gifts?  Last gift I heard someone got was a gift certificate for $250 for 25 years service.  Do you know what the average stay at a tech company has been in the past decade plus?

If what you state is true, consider yourself exceptionally fortunate.  Because if you honestly think that's the norm, you're seriously out of touch.

Who the hell do you work for anyway, the government?

I am comfortable with the hemi, but 8 sp tranny....will see.  It is very smooth but it likely takes a lot of new technology and parts to make it so.

My 2014 F 150 crew cab has been a good work truck but it's way too light in the britches with no payload

Driving mtn passes on windy days is gnarly getting tossed across lanes and steering wheel ripped out of my hands. Never had anywhere near the problem with any of my old Chevys.

You would prefer a free govt built truck.

I am sure we could have some fun here to guess what politically correct govt spec truck would look like....
