Applewhite's Cougers weren't the class of the league but weren't awful, bowl games aside.  Is there something we don't know about for Major to get fired after only 2 seasons or was it simply that the 70 point drubbing Army laid upon Houston was just too humiliating to overcome?

Head coaching record[edit]

Year Team Overall Conference Standing Bowl/playoffs
Houston Cougars (American Athletic Conference) (2016–present)
2016 Houston 0–1 0–0 T–3rd (West) L Las Vegas
2017 Houston 7–5 5–3 2nd (West) L Hawaii
2018 Houston 8–5 5–3 T–1st (West) L Armed Forces
Houston: 15–11 10–6
Total: 15–11 (.577)
National championship         Conference title         Conference division title or championship game berth

Harsin to Houston!

Oh they could, but they won't. They'll hire away some SEC coach first.

Their AD famously said, "We fire coaches for 8-4"

Oh yes they could. Harsin would jump at the chance to coach a program with prestige, not a G4 program like Boise.

one conference being preferable over another is WAY bigger than any single bowl season...the MAC has stability, an Access Bowl, and a decent TV contract....CUSA and the Belt cannot claim any of those things.

Agree that the MAC is a stronger conference than either CUSA or the Sun Belt right now.

The MAC is awful, just look at their bowl record year to year. The Sun Belt and C-USA are much better.
