bball anymore is watching guys chuck up 50% of their shots from 3, then watching the showboat reactions from the bench.

The hand check rule changes at both the NBA and NCAA levels as have had just as much impact as 3 pointers in making the game hard to watch.   Now its all isolation shit. Along with moving the 3 point shot out,  let guys play defense both with the hand check and more incidental contact and strictly enforce traveling, palming, and ban the eurostep.

Bullshit. Play defense with your feet. Hand checking should never have been allowed in the first place. It was never a part of the rules of basketball.

More contact? It's basketball, not football.

There's some validity to the point, though. Wings and PGs used to have to earn it a lot more than they do now... even just 10 years ago.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

What do you mean? They had to take a lot more contact? Are you saying the defender should have the advantage?

Contact was never supposed to be part of the game. If a player, offensive or defensive, creates contact, it should be a foul.

NBA is a terrible product right now.

As others have said.  It's nothing but isolation ball and heavy emphasis on 3 pointers.

Miss the days of teams like the Jazz running the pick and roll and a real offense.

An NBA where Greg Ostertag doesn't have value is no NBA I want to be a part of, I can tell you that.

Fouls are called on the perimeter now that were not called nearly as much even 10 years ago... "contact" is relative, especially certain kinds of contact. In the lane, there are Fouls that are flagrant fouls now even in the early 2000s were just normal fouls and reminders that driving to an obstructed basket may cost you something.

What is or isn't supposed to be part of the game is completely a matter of taste. Some people think it's better now, others don't. But there's no denying that it is different, and it has changed in the favor of a certain style of basketball.

Hand checking completely changes the flow of the game. It throws the offensive player off balance giving the defender the advantage. The arm bar in the post had the same impact.

I guess it all depends what you like, an offensive or defensive type game. I’ve always felt basketball should be a game of skill and finesse, not a pushing and wrestling match.

I’ve always thought basketball players are some of the best athletes of all sports. You have to have good footwork, hops, quickness, agility, hand/eye coordination, endurance, and strength, all translatable to many other sports. I love to see our football team recruit guys that have played both high school football and basketball.

Right or wrong the changes in enforcement of the rule has changed college basketball into a free throw shooting contest with a ton of isolation.

I prefer defense anyway and basketball has never been no contact.  Whatever your position is its hard to argue that style of play has made basketball more watchable.

the NBA is really a complete joke right now.

Not worth watching when they officiate games like this

The officiating favoring stars is nothing new. There's even some of that in college basketball, too, with the premier programs always getting calls.
