Menzies Isn’t Afraid of Scheduling Big

Remember this thread was about Marvin Menzies scheduling up?

Reminder he had nothing to do with Maui. So again Marvin is a cupcake scheduler.

That’s actually not true.  He is actively trying to get into the Battle for Atlantis.  He has contacted Duke and Kentucky about playing.

100%

How many conference championships, ncaa tournaments and 22+ win seasons did nmsu have in the SEVEN years before he was hired?

Answers:

Zero

One

Zero

He built that program rock solid. The coach before him, Theus, left nmsu on probation.

Its not even debatable.

That’s actually not accurate.  Reggie inherited a New Mexico State program that was coming off probation handed out in 2001 stemming from Neil McCarthy’s days as Aggies coach.

Reggie also inherited a program that was 6-24 the season before he arrived and in just two seasons led them back to the NCAA tournament.

Him trying and it actually being done are two different things. Can UNLV get a true home and home with Duke or Kentucky? You like to bash other schools for doing 2-1. Playing at T-mobile isn’t a true home and home either. Let’s see what Marvelous mediocre has up his sleeve.

Why did he leave?

The point you’re trying to make is that he refuses to schedule big name teams.  The only reason why we play at T-Mobile is because of the rodeo.  2-1 is for loser schools unless you’re the one getting two home games.

I’d like to see the scheduling agreements for those events. I’d bet they’re heavily subsidized by the casinos and espn/tv. I agree that’s a huge advantage Vegas has over most programs as an “event” destination.

Menzies has never been able to schedule a power 5 team at the Thomas and Mack. Fact. So marvelous

The WAC is a shell of its former self. The formation of the MWC in 1999 caused the loss of the most respected sports programs and after the later losses of BSU, FSU, UNR and USU they had fallen into irrelevance. Today NMSU is about the only school of stature remaining and that tells a story in and of itself. While they are positioned to perform at the top of that conference they would have serious problems maintaining that performance in the MWC...well with most teams not named UNM anyway.

My guess is USC or Arizona State.

So now you’re just guessing? If you don’t know the team then you can’t be sure it’ll even be at the Thomas and Mack. I doubt it’s USC they are already playing Nevada on the road in Lawlor. That is a fact.

Yet, you state no facts.

derp

Here are some facts:

This is year 3 and Menzies has the 143rd ranked team by kenpom

UNLV has played 7 games at home, they are 4-3 with 0 impressive wins and losses to Valpo and Loyola Marymount

UNLV loses there 3 biggest minute guys next year

UNLV is the 177th most experienced team in the country so yes they are young but nothing crazy, middle of pack
