You beat an unranked Kansas team. They Aztecs beat #16 Kansas.

A couple of years earlier we beat #11 Gonzaga at their place.

Those are two of the most difficult places to play, along with the Pit if you are not the Aztecs that is

'05-'06 Kansas finished 8th in KenPom, 12th in the AP, and 22nd in the Coach's

'13-'14 Kansas finished 7th in KenPom, 10th in the AP, and 14th in the Coach's

Not very dissimilar

Gonzaga can be tough. I remember beating them by 19 in the NCAA Tournament when they were a No. 2 seed in Seattle, with about 14,000 of their fans in attendance. That was kind of a big win.

A couple of years later we beat them again in the Battle of Seattle. Same venue, closer game, same ultimate result.

Talk of that game reminds me of this:

In 2013 the Aztecs played #20 Creighton in the second round of the Wooden Classic. The Aztecs fell behind 19-7 and went on a 44-16 run to turn the game around.
In 2018 the Aztecs plated xxxx Xavier..... in the second round of the Maui................ The Aztecs fell behind 32-13 and went on a 45-17 run to turn the game around.

Very similar feel to the games.

That now makes us 4-0 in our last four games against the Big East on neutral courts:

- Creighton (2013 Wooden Classic)

- Marquette (2013 Wooden Classic)

- St. Johns (2015 NCAA)

- Xavier (2018 Maui Invitational)

But they weren't ranked when you beat them. They got better as the year. progressed.

SDSU has had 5 upper half NCAA berths in a row.

He said the most expensive things in life are free.

He used the over used quote about doing the same thing, two possessions after the Aztecs switched to zone and picked up the defense full court.

Or they were underrated early in the season.

WTF are early season ranking anyway? Just a bunch of bullshit opinions.

They started the season 3-4  losing to 3 unranked teams and Nevada.

They finished the season 15-1, only losing to #7 Texas.

SDSU has had 5 upper half NCAA berths in a row.

It's Bill Walton.  We're all just basking in his wisdom.

It’s a requirement that every Nevada fan loop that play a minimum of 10 times on every occasion they stumble across it on the interwebs.

Here's the U-T's preview of today's 5th-place/consolation bracket championship game against ISU, embedded in Zeigler's article (link at bottom):

Quote

SDSU vs. Iowa State

Wednesday: 11:30 a.m. PST, Lahaina Civic Center, Maui, Hawaii

On the air: ESPN2; 1360-AM, 101.5-FM

Records: SDSU is 3-1, Iowa State is 4-1.

Series history: Iowa State leads 3-2. The Cyclones won the most recent meeting 69-59 in 2004 in Ames, Iowa.

Cyclones update: They are missing four rotation players due to injury (Solomon Young and Lindell Wigginton) and suspensions (Cameron Lard and Zoran Talley Jr.). Wigginton, out with a foot strain, is a preseason all-Big 12 selection after averaging 16.7 points as a freshman. Even so, they looked good Tuesday in an 84-68 victory against an Illinois team that took No. 3 Gonzaga to the wire a night earlier. The other wins are against Alabama State, Missouri and Texas Southern; the loss was a 71-66 decision against Arizona in the Maui opener after leading by 10 in the second half. The lone common opponent is Texas Southern. Iowa State beat the Tigers 85-73 in Ames on Nov. 12; the Aztecs beat them 103-64 two days later at Viejas Arena. Marial Shayok, a 6-6 senior from Canada, had 19 points and 14 rebounds in the Arizona game. The star against Illinois was 6-4 freshman Talen Horton-Tucker, with 26 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. The Cyclones under fourth-year coach Steve Prohm like to spread the floor and attack, averaging 78 points. Three players are averaging 17-plus points: Shayok at 19.2, Michael Jacobson at 17.4 and Horton-Tucker at 17.2. They’re also forcing 15.4 turnovers per game and holding opponents to 38.4-percent shooting.

I knew it was one of our largest comebacks in the history of the program, but I didn't know it was the 3rd-largest nor would I have thought the comeback W against the Loobs in Viejas several years ago (when we switched to the 1-3-1 zone) would not be among the top three... Funny how time distorts memory like that.

Uhm sure. Could be the case. Also, could be that the polls aren’t the gospel when ranking teams; especially 4 freaking games into the season. If the preseason #1 team actually finishes unranked and .500, is a win over them in the first few games of the season really all that impressive?

I listen BECAUSE of his rants.. and here's the thing about Walton. He can be going off on some inane topic (how do the turtles know when to sleep?) and all of a sudden he throws out the most astute observation ever.

It would be quite the show if Walton ever called a game at Lawlor or the T&M.  Or - dare to dream - the Thunderdome.

Walton in Vegas talking about the wisdom of Tark.  In Reno talking about Muss losing his shirt.  In Santa Barbara, Jerry Pimm's boat and Ben Howland.

Let him experience that superior lifestyle at CSU.  Mind blown

Please. You cannot compare our win at the Phog late in the OOC while they were ranked and had their shit together in one season with catching them while they were trying to get their shit together in another. That's the end of the matter.

Now can you please take Wolfpack talk to a Wolfpack thread?

tl;dr:

psssssssssst... your insecurity is showing

Hey, Nevada fans weren't the idiots who started the "we beat Kansas at Kansas" bullshit.

And once they were made fools of, had to start rationalizing that their win was somehow "better".
