badfish
I’m not sure any other fan base can understand what this means to us Aztec fans. To finally have a stadium to call our own is amazing. No more “empty” games in a cavernous tombstone. No more atmospheres like a cemetery. No more shit from bitch ass locals and opposing fan bases. I’m mostly excited for the players. They get new locker rooms and a sense of pride. We can go 2-10 in our first season, I really don’t care, I’ll probably just be admiring the stadium the entire time anyways. Go Aztecs!

soupslam1
Nice. Time for Hawaii, Fresno, UNM, and SJSU to modernize and step up to the plate.
Fowl
It’s far far more than a stadium. The research and campus extensions are one of two pieces to help ameliorate the issue of academic rankings (despite being more difficult to gain admittance than all but five pac schools) and allow us to expand the enrollment and research capabilities. The other being the CSU charter prohibition on research. We need to get that lifted and then we are in business.

If you're referring to SJSU's basketball arena and baseball facility yes. However, any renovation to Spartan Stadium would be a total waste of money. I also don't know why you excluded mention of Nevada. Quote Boom goes the dynamite.

Maybe because Nevada facilities are perfectly adequate.
Mike Morgan
Excuse my ignorance in the specifics of all this, but I’m wondering who’s actually paying for the construction of the new stadium?

SDSU will own the land. For various development components, the university will issue an RFP. Developers will build facilities that they will have title to, but will be leased back to the univerisity, with ownership reverting to the university at the end of the lease. The developers will recoup their development costs and make a profit over the life of the lease. I'm not sure of the stadium lease duration. For those I've read about (housing, labs, offices, etc.) it's 40 years. Quote Thay Haif Said: Quhat Say Thay? Lat Thame Say

Del Scorcho
congrats SDSU! does that mean that Qual Comm will be demolished soon, and is there any indication of what will happen to the Holiday Bowl, will it move North to LA or stay in SD?
