I think the president becoming unhinged at a press conference after the midterms is more problematic than him removing a reporter from the press pool and lying about it.

Everyone get ready for a clowncar roller coaster for the next 2 years.

Given how many old business associates said, and an investigation by the city of NY confirmed, that he intentionally resisted renting to African Americans and given the bigoted comments he has made about blacks in the White House as reported by Bob Woodford and considering how vile he was to the two young black women reporters, going so far as to question their intelligence, I've been thinking this: There's a 50-50 chance that within the next two years Trump is going to utter a blatantly anti-black racial epithet in public. When he does, the recipients of that comment aren't going to exercise the patience that people of Mexican descent did when he demeaned their people during the campaign.

Boom goes the dynamite.

And we have a group of clowns around here celebrating it.

If you haven't noticed, several of the Trumpians have virtually ceased defending him over the last couple months.

I'm not sure what it will take to get the holdouts to finally decide that the modicum of what they consider to be positive policy changes no longer justifies continued support of by far the most unpresidential President in history but I hold out hope they will come around eventually.

Liberal to me means open minded which is far from what today’s “liberals” are.

And yet, we someone calls someone else a liberal in the United States, we all immediately know what they mean with pretty good accuracy.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

He knew what he was doing.  He's a very smart kid.  He has his masters and teaches social studies in a local high school.  He wasn't mistakenly using the word, but rather purposefully misusing the word to stir up political shyt at my Christmas party.

My point being, we've got activists, purposefully misusing these words.  It's important to know the environment you're in and make sure there is common understanding of the meaning of some of these "gotcha" words.

how is it mis-using a word by associating other incarnations of that term with the term itself? If you are the president or a political leader, and you are going to call yourself a nationalist, you should be ready and able to explain why nationalism in your form will not manifest itself in the same or similar ways as other forms of nationalism that would be familiar to an American audience. I do not believe that is unreasonable. We often demand the same thing of socialists, or lefties when we call them socialists, no?

As for the family dynamics, you're right about that. A family Christmas party is not the place to do that unless you're trying to be annoying. Maybe he likes getting your goat.

I wouldn't be shocked if this happened.

In my example the word was clearly being used to call Trump a nazi and KKK.  We're all Americans but we're not all Texans.

Trump needs to get some thicker skin. Yes the reporter is trying to get a reaction, but you don't ban him from press conferences because of that.

Just answer the question and move on. Freaking out on people who want you to freak out only encourages them.

Most people learn that in grade school.

The globalism I fear is an international body that controls every country in the world and dictates what they can and cannot do.  Kind of like the European Union, but on a global scale. The other globalism I fear is the one that wants America to take care of all the worlds problems which is where we are trending to some extent.

Does anyone favor either of the above two scenarios?

Idk man. A single government for mankind sounds crummy... but one Germany today is a lot better for its inhabitants than the many Germanies of the 1600s. Food for thought.

Donald Trump didn't attend grade school. His old man paid somebody to attend it for him.

Do you think Trump knew what he was doing using the term? Was he unaware of the negative connotations and why it is not widely used? Do you think it's use emboldens the white nationalist groups in this country?

You're on the right track but switch this part. Soon, corporations will become "nations".

China will be pulling this off sooner than we think..

Jack.

For one, "each country will become a corporation"? What does that even mean? That the more wealth you have, the more control you have? We already have that, and it is exactly how the founding fathers envisioned this nation. We already proportion representation based on power, both of state sovereignty and population. Taxes and wealth already govern who gets what and who lobbies for what.

"An enslaved labor force"? Jack, that makes zero goddamn sense. The labor force is the market for the corporations. Without healthy demand, their profits go down and they all get fired and cry into their waterford crystal cups. Corporations want markets. Who would these slave driving corporations sell anything to?

"Bought and sold"? Jack, corporations WANT employees that can move around. It lets them hire people with experience.

"Everything from Nike shoes to Soylent green"? So you mean people can work for whatever company they want? The horror.

"A liberal's wet dream"? What part? Globalism is a conservative dream in this country, Jack, or it was for the last ~40 years until Populism Donald came in like a hurricane. A bunch of corporations literally owning people and running countries? Jack, that is literally the dystopia that fuels all of the ridiculous regulations the left comes up with.

"all armies will become mercenaries to the highest bidder" - what in the good hell are you talking about? You think a man goes out to die for a pretty ribbon and forty bucks a day? You have to speak to the soul to get troops. "Help us make money" is not that. For that matter, why would your corporate dystopia ever even want armies to be bought and sold? You lock down your assets tight, you don't share them.

"in the name of security" jack, that is the opposite of security.

You are correct on a short term, but Google is well on it's way to forming social and political norms. 100 yrs from now?...   google is working in China developing their controlled internet system. They suppress our internet searches all ready.  As corporations move to keep merging and monopolize, individual choices in jobs will go away.

Whoever controls information.....controls us and Saying corporations are largely conservative makes me laugh.
