I think it's only fitting Folks in the South didn't like the name Nevada Southern & wanted a change. The students voted for Nevada State but at the Regents meeting, at the last minute, without anybody from the North present, they went with UNLV. Not really a big deal up here, but some resent that after 75 years as Nevada, it was Vegas that arbitrarily changed our name to UNR. People call it Berkeley for the university, not for sports. It’s the same thing here. I don’t care if someone says UNR in reference to the school. Nobody calls it Reno because if you’re in Reno and you say you’re going up to Reno, that’s just confusing. Likewise, I’d rarely say I’m going up to Nevada....that also makes no sense.
