MWC/A10 Challenge in Discussions

Our administration is not in favor of these challenges. They're formed to get competitive games for teams that lack the resources/appeal to secure them on their own. SDSU doesn't have that problem.

You don't think that something which could help the conference overall might also help SDSU?

I'm not telling you what I think. I'm telling you what has been stated by both Fisher and Dutcher as well as the AD. They would rather play a Pac 12 team or even a strong WCC,  BW squad or negotiate a home and home with a KU or the like than travel across the country to play an Atlantic 10 team.

These games only " help" the conference if they win. Travelling 3 time zones and losing to a marginal squad is a distinct, even probable outcome for some squads.

As for me. IDGAF. I'll show up regardless.  The biggest game for me is Nov. 1 when we roll it out against Chaminade. Chaminade or KU.  I make no distinction. it's college BB. It makes my life worth living ( kidding....sort of)

I'm pretty happy. I know some on here were hoping for an AAC or Pac-12 challenge, but I saw both as pipe dreams for a variety of reasons.

That said, look at it this way if you're a bit dismayed. Most of the matchups that will come of this would probably rarely, if ever happen, outside of a tournament setting. It's a pretty solid league too. If we'd signed a deal with the SWAC or something, I'd be pretty pissed. But I can live with the A-10. Definitely a step up from the deballed-post Creighton/WSU MVC challenge, to me anyway.

You of all teams should be elated.  Otherwise what OOC team would want to play in a remote place at that elevation if they didn't have to?

Playing a good team out of region (unless you're in a weaker region like the west might be) is good for your RPI--assuming you're a good team.

3 A-10 teams won't participate, much like the MW is doing now with 1 member

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the committee does an algorithm for seeding the most similar teams of each conference, hence Nevada-Loyola (IL)...so it may be something along those lines

Side note: Maybe the WCC and Big East can do a similar challenge just so Gonzaga fans can stop whining.

Don't think this would end well for most of the WCC teams.

Our administration disagrees. We don't have trouble scheduling RPI friendly opponents. The problem with RPI is in conference.

I hope it happens, as I said earlier. The A-10 is a comparable basketball conference.

If the Mountain West wants a better conference challenge, then I hope they're ready to beat the dog shit out of the A10, which they weren't able to do versus the MVC.

Like I said, take it up with our administration. They don't think so. Maybe one day, IF Reno becomes an actual program instead of having a couple good years, your administration will think differently too.

They don't think what's good for the conference is good for SDSU? That's weird.

Phuck them, what do you think?

I don't think there's anything that's universally "good for the conference", SDSU is part of the conference, no?  They think it's not good for them.  I've already stated what I think and that is IDGAF who we play and how it's determined. I buy my season tickets, as I have since 1985, I show up to the games, I have a beer, and enjoy myself.

This a really good deal for the MWC. The A10 has some stellar programs

I agree, I don't really get the complaint by Dutcher and co.  I doubt we will be playing their bottom feeders, and with all the cupcakes on our schedule, just swap it out and it probably improves our SOS.
