Europe As A Model For The USA To Adopt?

Recommended Posts

From Obama to Soros to most on the left, there’s a desire to become just like the other lower powered nations in Europe, and adopt their version of socialism. They want all of our economic and foreign policy decisions made together equally. No more superpower status. We are citizens of the world!! Not all, but quite a few think the US has had too much of a dirty past for them to be able to love their country. Fvck nationalism!!!

But the closer you look at Europe, the scarier it is in so many ways. Complete Freedom of speech in GB is dead. You can get arrested and prosecuted for honest criticism of certain people and even basic conservative and moderate viewpoints on issues, especially immigration isssues. You’ve got a second parallel system of justice with a primitive and ridiculous Sharia Law. And similar things in the other countries.

Here’s another disaster to add to the list crazy European shit. An obnoxious and nutty actor has a warrant for his arrest for saying bad things about God and the Virgin Mary. This sounds a lot like the Muslim nations that will jail or kill you if you say something bad about the Koran.

Connie along with a ton of other cons on this board have no idea what socialism is.  To them, any social program is socialism.  I guess if "social" is used to describe the program, their tiny brains jump to the wrong conclusion.  They've been conditioned that way by the propaganda they choose to digest as their information sources.

None of the countries of western Europe are socialist.  But the cons here will bark loudly their lack of understanding, and double down on their ignorance.

American airports, railways and interstate freeways are all overseen by the Feds and would fit under their socialist umbrella. Let's scrap those programs and see how they like it. It's a double standard.

In my mind we strike a pretty good balance right now. We are primarily a capitalist country that provides the highest standard of living for the average citizen in the world with sufficient socialist programs for the general welfare of the country plus a safety net for most poor. It’s not ideal, but taxes generated do not allow to fund everything we would like. We do need to solve the health care issue.

We are in a battle now where many want to redistribute wealth from wealthy capitalists to a more socialistic state. In other words take from some to give to others. I have an issue with that because most wealthy people generally have earned that wealth through their own initiative and ideas that have benefitted society. And as we have already seen when you take from the wealthy they simply do their business elsewhere or leave the country.

There is no ranking system I could find that ranks the US as having the highest standard of living. We usually come in around 10th.

Of course, because they're all printed by the Lame Stream Media!

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

That's right, the US does not. We didn't even make the Top 10 (per this August 4, 2018 report).

Are you actually cool with a country where there’s no freedom of speech and you can’t criticize religion?? Holy crap, you’re a radical left guy. You should be ready to go protest on the streets and break lots of shit over this.

I don’t think any informed American needs a ranking system to tell them what’s going on with the quality of life here or any europee’n nation.

Standard of living was under discussion. It can be measured. An informed person of any nationality relies on knowledge and data. It’s no surprise you don’t.

I should have added “of comparable population”. All of the ten countries mentioned above are much much smaller than the US and they also tax their citizens at a much higher rate. When you factor in our population in comparison we are doing very well.

It also should be noted our military is essentially protecting those countries through NATO. If those countries had to protect themselves they would be spending a lot more money on military instead of social programs.

Well I certainly agree with you that we have the highest standard of living of any country with a population of 300-something million.

Those countries are doing well in spite of their taxes. In fact, one could argue that what they receive in return for those taxes plays a large part in their standard of living. Taxes aren’t a dirty word in every language.

As far as NATO goes, our commitment to the treaty organization is a very small fraction of what it once was, and a small part of our overall defense expenditures. In return we get some key bases. If Trump has his way our commitment will likely decrease over time.

They also don’t have dysfunctional DC managing those tax dollars and social programs.
