Strzok fired

Recommended Posts

Peter Strzok, the FBI counterintelligence agent who came under withering criticism from Republicans for a series of anti-Trump text messages he sent during the 2016 campaign, was fired on Friday, his attorney said.

According to Strzok's lawyer, Aitan Goelman, an internal disciplinary review had recommended Strzok's demotion and a 60-day suspension. But Goelman said Monday that the deputy director of the FBI overruled that determination and decided to fire him.

"The decision to fire Special Agent Strzok is not only a departure from typical Bureau practice, but also contradicts Director Wray's testimony to Congress and his assurances that the FBI intended to follow its regular process in this and all personnel matters," Goelman said.

A good move by FBI in my opinion.

A GoFundMe account for embattled former FBI agent Peter Strzok that launched shortly after his termination was publicized raised nearly $41,000 in five hours.

The account was started by an anonymous organizer, listed only as “Friends of Special Agent Peter Strzok,” with a stated goal of raising $150,000. The costs will go towards Strzok’s legal fees and supplementing his lost income since he is currently unemployed...

...The website of the account argues that the money is necessary beceause Strzok has been victimized by conservatives, and that the FBI fired him because they were ceding to political pressure. “Unlike those who typically become the focus of partisan investigations in Washington, Pete is not politically connected, he’s not a wealthy lobbyist and he’s not interested in using his notoriety for personal gain,” the website states.

It’s immoral to let a sucker keep his money.

He and the rest of his cabal of traitors from the deposed regime deserve the Romanov treatment.  Firing is too good for him.

They should be raised to the highest position in the land and given complete authority for 300 years? I think that’s a bit much.

Granted that's edited but even in real time the guy came off as a smug smart ass. Which is a particularly bad look for the FBI.

That hearing was a debacle all the way around. Should never have happened.

This guy was the lead man in the Clinton and Trump investigations. With his out spoken biases, which were contrary to FBI standards, he should have been fired by Comey long ago, or at least not put in a position of power in those investigations.

To be fair to Comey, the biases only came to light through private texts discovered by the IG. Comey probably never saw them before he was fired.

From some of Comey’s statements, he appeared to have similar biases. He just hid them better. So, my above statement is a moot point. Comey never would have fired Strzok even if he knew.

I don’t buy that. Whatever Comey’s biases, and I think it’s fair to say he probably didn’t hold a high opinion of Trump, Comey loved him some Comey. He doesn’t seem the sort to let one of his people acting out on their biases reflect badly upon him.

Comey seems to have had faith that the weird political meritocracy of the FBI would deliver him people below him that would act and be just like Comey. That they’d all be Eagle Scouts when it came to the job, whatever their political preferences. Strozk was no Eagle Scout.

While Peter Stzrok's personal messages were deemed unprofessional, the OIG Report concluded that there was no bias during the course of the investigation;[1]

  • Peter Strzok co-wrote the initial draft of the Comey letter reopening the Clinton investigation 11 days before the 2016 Presidential election.[2]
  • Peter Strzok sent personal messages that had no bearing on the Clinton investigation. The Justice Department's Inspector General Report concluded that political bias did not ultimately influence the Clinton investigation.[3]

Despite the appearance of bias created by these actions, the OIG found no evidence that bias affected any investigatory decision or action. As determined by the OIG, there was no evidence of bias or other improper considerations in former Director Comey’s instruction to complete the MYE investigation “promptly.” Likewise, the OIG considered multiple decisions and actions taken by the MYE team related to obtaining evidence, interview timing and procedures, and the use of consent or immunity agreements.

  • Long before we learned of these personal text messages, in the summer of 2017 Special Counsel Mueller immediately removed Peter Strzok from his team as soon as he learned of these allegations to avoid any perceived appearance of bias in this politically charged investigation.[4]

Stop it @retrofade!  Logic and reason have no place here!  It's :pitchforks: time for cons!

Funny that when it comes to bias, they don't seem to care about, say, SCOTUS selections or other judges, political appointments like Trump putting his family in high places, etc.

Cons love to con.  Do as I say, not as I do!
