You socially left wing people just LOVE to inaccurately frame issues if you think it gives you an opening to manipulate public thinking in your favor.

Example #1: Instead of just calling out people that discriminate against gays as ‘gay prejudice’, you make up a new word and pimp the narrative that gay haters actually hate because they FEAR homosexuals. Despite the fact that most gay haters are just DISGUSTED with gay sex, the phony ‘homophobia’ word was born and pop culture did it’s job of convincing people that ‘fear’ was at the core of the problem.

Thanks for the false etymology convert

Example #2. When it comes to immigration issues, you pimp racism like there was no tomorrow. This is 2018, not 1968. In reality, race has very little to do with the resistance of too many poor Latinos crossing the border. If you want to be accurate, you’ll substitute ‘race’ with ‘culture’. If you live in a really nice gated golf course community, you’ll see people that are white, Latino, black, etc. getting along great as neighbors, golfing together and working together in some cases. Skin color means absolutely nothing, it’s the culture of that group of people that governs. The same diverse group of people golfing together would welcome a poor migrant family into their culture and neighborhood if their culture was inline. Race would mean virtually nothing.

Convert, "culture" is effectively meaningless. It gets homogenized. The culture of other immigrant communities was much different than the overall US culture than latinos vs US and they (we, really) assimilated fine.

If skin color means nothing, then how is legal immigration a problem?

Trump has elite level managers that are Latino, black, etc. and they play golf together. They have a common culture and race is a non-issue. The left always tries to pimp the race card because it’s much more sexy that pimping ‘culture’.

Is it? How do you know? Also, "I have a black friend" is not "I'm not racist eeeevvvaaaaaaa!"

It's bizarre that you're calling out the "left" for "pimping the race card" when this entire thread is about Ingram "pimping the race card". You do you though convert.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

My concerns about illegal immigration exist on all borders.

Ingraham's remark, to me, was akin to all the Californians taking over Wyoming.  It has littlet do with race and everything to do with how a demographic with differing views about many social, political, religious and other differing influences move into a community and change it.  It's not wrong, it's just change.  Me saying Jackson Hole isn't what it used to be isn't about race, but the changes that have occurred due to the influx of differing philosophies.  Can race be part of it?  I suppose.  But snobby, wealthy and liberal is what changed Jackson Hole.  I doesn't matter if they were white snobs or wealthy Hispanic.  Thus not about race.

But when she is talking about changes to the culture and country she isn't talking about rich snobby people coming in and changing it like Jackson Hole. She is talking about immigrants both illegal and legal. The whole debate about immigration has been focused on the southern border. I doubt she is talking about immigrants from Canada coming in and now there are too much fires with gravy in this country "we" don't recognize it anymore.

Can't disagree that this was the given context that she made these remarks.  I don't know if she made this statement speaking only to this context or within a larger context.  We interpreted in differently.  Happens all the time and that's OK.

Agreed but I don't know that it is a view that has ever been promoted in major media at any time. I could be wrong, but it always seemed something that was discussed at homes and in the streets, maybe in political rallies, but not proffered by the media.

Anti-immigration philosophy was the essence of the Whig Party. It went gangbusters for about one election cycle and then died out.

In Ingraham's case, I think a lot of her fervor is based on being a fundamentalist Catholic. There are already too many people in the U.S. so it is easier for her to oppose abortion under all circumstances if so doing could be said to have no affect on population growth because it was balanced by simultaneously abolishing all legal immigration.

I agree with your general comment.  Ellis Island was established in the 1890s and from a number of reports I've read, it wasn't a walk in the park.  This is when the US got pretty serious about controlling immigration, officially anyways.

+1. My dad's grandfather came to the U.S. from Norway at that time. Unlike modern Norweigians he didn't speak English well and was elated to finally get to the U.S. from what was then an impoverished country. Therefore, when the immigration guy misspelled his last name on the Ellis Island paperwork, my great grandfather said absolutely nothing for fear of making waves and our family name has technically been incorrect ever since.

Is there such a thing as a fundamentalist Catholic?  First time I've ever heard it.

Have you or any family member looked into what it would take to correct it?

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/fundamentalism

One of my best friends as a kid was raised by a mother who was just like Ingraham. Even after getting his driver's license Charlie couldn't go to a movie without his mother first checking the Catholic missal to see if the movie passed muster. That's what I mean by Catholic fundamentalism.

As to my surname, I once told my folks I would change it when I became an adult. Dad said the same had occurred to him at my age but he felt so doing would be disrespectful to his immediate ancestors, siblings, cousins, etc. I agreed. And BTW, about six months ago I found a website which lists last names of everyone in the various Scandinavian countries according to census info. From that I learned that not only was one letter deleted at Ellis Island, a second letter was changed because there isn't one person in Norway or any other Scandinavian country with the last name as my family has spelled it. However, there are about 1,300 in Norway alone with a slightly different spelling, all of whom are presumably long lost relatives. If you're unaware of it, Lutheranism is still the official religion of Norway so any money one gives to that church can be deducted from the national income tax. Among the reasons Norway still has only 6 million people is that unlike the Pope, Lutherans have never opposed birth control.

Boom goes the dynamite.

How is "legal and illegal immigration is making America something it wasn't!!!!!" not about race?

For me an increasing population equals more people trying to stand in my fishing spot.  Ruining the view of this countries natural resources with more roads, oil derricks and their handicapped access.   More people applying for antelope, elk, deer etc.... tags so I can't get one.    More people like @Old_SD_Dude hiking the trails and ruining the view at that mountain lake I used to be alone at when I visited.

If you all stayed in the city worked your asses off living what you think is the high life, like @youngrebelfan40.    It would be great,

Now you fat +++++ers are riding your atv's through my chukar hunting area because you are to lazy to walk.

The authoritarian values of you people from Guatamala, Nicaruagua, Mexico, Russia and California are creating a country where the bill of rights is being ignored and when i lose my rights to own a shotgun and I end up having to hunt Chukar with a whip like the mongols did.  That is going to be the last straw.

I am sure @UNLV2001 will tell me this is all about racism though.

It's pretty stupid to say that it is people fleeing countries with authoritarian values vote authoritarian when literally every other immigrant to this country did that exact same thing

I don't agree with you. Every immigrant to the US came here from authoritarian nations. England was, Germany was, Ireland was, Italy was, Japan was, China was, Poland was. The idea that all of the sudden immigrants from other, browner authoritarian nations will keep their nation's ideas instead of every other group that came here is suspicious looking blues.

You keep referring to "my GOP'.  HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

My GOP would protect public lands for the public, pass immigration reform so despite the racism in the democratic party and their money overlords we would have a reasonable system to get the labor we need without any care about color.  My GOP would revoke the patriot act, prosecute Obama for murder and violating at least 5 amendments to the constitution when he assassinated an american citizen for speech he didn't like.  My GOP would pull out of all the little shit wars, stop immediately the killing of anyone with drones outside a war zone and we would have no war zones.  My GOP would cut military spending 75% and all other spending 25% as a prelude to getting serious about real spending cuts.   Since my GOP defense department would only care about defending our borders not policing the world.  My GOP would cut off welfare to other western countries and pull out of stupid treaties like NATO which do us no good.   My GOP would also cut off the pharma welfare we give socialist nations who force our companies to give away their break through s, while we pay full boat plus some to their companies to keep them in business.   My GOP would reduce federal tax collections once the debt was reduced, so that States, counties and cities would have the tax room to provide programs specific, and popular in their own regions of the country, if they so desire.   My GOP would encourage options such as adoption over abortion but let the ignorant and cruel kill their own babies if they wanted just to allow evolution to take place.  My GOP would also allow anyone access to $3/month birth control at Walmart, which of course everyone already has and anyone complaining about the expense of birth control is an ignorant ass.  My GOP would reinstate the 10th amendment to the constitution and comply with it.  My GOP would prosecute the NCAA for violations of the 13th amendment to the constitution and jail them all.  My GOP would oversee the most expansive economic gains since women figured out they could sell their bodies.
