Embarrassing response by coaches

Recommended Posts

One of the worst things I thought happened so far today was when the Mountain coaches were asked what the league needs to do to make itself the best G5 league and maybe even follow the path of the American which is very open about being the sixth power league. The awkwardness of the silence before he gave a so-so answer was a wasted chance. He didn't even need to be super braggy either. Could have mentioned (any coach not just Davie) the success in big-time bowl games, the first-round picks from last year or say how the league can be that top G5 team by going to NY6 games and beating P5 teams.

I pulled the clip if anyone missed. I attached it to the post or you can see the video here

Well, thats a loaded subject and there are a room full of media guys just waiting to twist their words and make them look bad. So you know what? They mostly kept their mouths shut because of the audience.

I actually kinda liked Bob Davies comments. The coaches jobs there are to pick their words very carefully so the click bait reporters don't twist em up, make em look bad and try to start shet.

The issue I have with Davie is that he says 'We can't worry about all the other stuff', however every other time he talked during that round table, and how he has talked in the past, was about how hard it is to compete with the Power 5, how he does not have the resources, how the gap is growing, etc. Guy seems to always have an excuse.

I actually think the response is perfect despite all of them trying to pass on it first. You win, thats how, and thats basically what he's saying.

Yes, winning takes care of it all, but I was looking for more but without sounding arrogant.

Most of these coaches aren't married to the league, and the easiest way for them to get to the P-5 level is to have a winning season or two and take a HC coaching job at that level.

That's more the AD space IMO. Coaches are gonna coach speak, period. All they do is think about how what they say will effect the mentality of their players.

Just what we need the conference spokesperson to be the same guy that just came off a 30 days suspension for sketchy behavior.  Great.
