Can Fresno State repeat?

The odds say that there will be some regression; Fresno had few injuries last year and the ST may not be as good as it was last year. But on the other hand, offense should take a big step forward with the infusion of new talent, McMariyon's first full offseason with the team, and his permission to uncork the ball more.

SDSU will be a tough out, even in a home game for FS, and I think Nevada will be able to put up a far more respectable outing this year than they did last year against the 'Dogs. Still, the West is extremely weak, so I believe the floor remains pretty high barring some wonky circumstances.

Fresno State has gotten substantially deeper in the last year and is developing players after utterly failing to do so for five years. Tedford said the team resembled a program on probation when he arrived. That's no longer the case. FS is built to succeed over the long run and will regularly compete with SDSU for the top spot in the West IMO. The only question is how high the ceiling is.

I don't think that Fresno State really snuck up on anybody after drubbing UNM 38-0 and holding them to their lowest rushing total in x years (~138 yards).  After that game it was pretty apparent that the 'dogs were good (UNM was expected to be decent, IIRC). SDSU is realistically the only team that can claim Fresno snuck up on them, and they ran the same scheme they did all year and actually had their best results on the first drive. I'm on record saying that the game may look different if Fresno and SDSU played on a different week, but IMO Fresno was the better, more multi-dimensional team. Fresno certainly didn't sneak up on anybody after that game, including in consecutive wins against the two top teams in the Mountain.

I think the roster has changed like 65-70% since he came here - he's used the blueshirt rules to skirt scholarship limits pretty well.   Wild.

If SJSU wasn’t leaching off the rest of us you probably wouldn’t feel so much hate.

Naw that's not it.     Haters Gone Hate.

McMaryion showed some potential while at Oregon State but that program was and is still hot garbage.

After McMaryion graduates, who will be the next QB for the Bulldogs that certainly was recruited by Tedford unless he catches on to the grad transfer craze?

Reyna will likely be the starter in 2019, unless Comstock or Wooldridge come into spring/fall camp next year pass him up. He'll be in year three of the system, and has a cannon for an arm. We'll also have a 3* JC transfer, Hunter Raquet, coming in for the spring as part of the 2019 recruiting class. Then if we can hold onto him, we'll have a likely 4* guy in Jaden Casey coming in for the 2020 class.

Reyna we'll only get one year out of, though...long-term it's going to be Comstock or Casey.    Comstock is a stud; had he committed to football in college earlier and done the camp circuit he'd likely have been a high 3*-4* with bigger offers than Oregon State.   Casey will probably end up a 4* given that he already has some national interest before his junior season even starts.  We're pretty well set with those two - Woolridge isn't bad, but absent significant physical development i don't think he's on the same level as those two.

pretty much any oregon state fan will tell you gary andersen unfairly ran him out of town when he was clearly the best QB on the roster.  Weird f'n coach.   McMaryion's not an NFL guy, but he's an above-average college QB who rarely turns it over, can make pretty much all the throws you need and pick up yards with his legs in a pinch.   Plenty of P5 schools that don't even have that.

Tsk tsk....leaving his feet for an attempted arm tackle? Nice coaching. NV scored on that play.

How is this scrawny little white kid that watches anime going to judge the tackling form of a First Team all-MWC player? Makes no sense.

Oh, wait. Your team is coached by Brennan, and you thought it was a good hire last year. Never mind. Makes sense.

Is Comstock going to wrestle for the dogs?

Is anyone going to mention the fact that the article has a picture of Coach DeRuyter on the image of the team running out from the tunnel?

I mean, WTF?

Yeah pretty bad!!!

The article misses the key to Fresno in my opinion.  The return of a nasty strong OLine personified by Muti.   He doesn’t want to block you he want to dominate you until you quit.

Muti held his own against bama pretty well, if memory serves.  Well, it rarely serves, but thats what the data retrieval pulls up in there.
