Equivalent term for "leftist"

rightist

While you are technically correct about it being the equivalent, I just don't think "rightist" has the same feel.

What’s wrong with being leftist?   I love it personally.

I guess there's technically nothing wrong with it but it just seems to have a subversive connotation that comes along with the literal meaning of the word.

So toons, I personally try and distinguish between those who are moderate left and those who are radical leftist authoritarians. There's a big difference between the two which is why you'll often see me writing the word "radical" before "leftist."

For example, @Old_SD_Dude is a guy on the left but I think the world of him. He and I will often disagree on many issues but he's reasonable and understands there is a need for balance. I won't name names on this particular post but there are a handful of radical leftist authoritarians on this board who shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Old SD.

We've got similar dynamic for folks on the right. @CPslograd is a reasonable guy but there are a handful of dress short wearing others who are radical right wing authoritarians.

It may be if some use to remember of the origin of the term Leftist, which comes from the French Revolution. The Anti-Monarchist, Republican members of the Estates General sat on the left side of the chamber (the Left Wing). Those supported the monarchy were on the right. Our own Founding Fathers were the extreme Leftists of their day.

This is true.

During the American Revolution, the Tories and Loyalists were the conservative side. The Revolutionary colonists were liberal, left-wing.

However, compared to today's politics, our Founding Fathers are extreme right wing, even to the point of allowing the ownership of other human beings.

Why are you in a thread about labels?

Because vitue-signaling is the highest value for the Left.

Losing elections? Perfectly OK, as long as they get in their virtue-signalling.

Sure thing. Look at our incarceration rates, then compare them to the “socialist” countries in Northern and Western Europe.

He is stuck on this idea that America is some "freedom" utopia.  LBGTQ have no civil rights, highest incarceration rate in the world, guns are worshiped, and America's way of solving issues is to bomb the shit out of anyone, regardless of the collateral damage.

We all know you can't bring up all the wonderful, most happiest people living in socialist countries in such discussions. Only South or Central American dictatorships are allowed for comparison.

I'm a libertarian. I'm fighting for LGBT rights, lower incarceration rates, and less war a whole hell of a lot harder than you are.

Pretty much all "socialist" countries have mixed economies of some sort.

Kinda like the U.S.

The European countries referenced are like the US. They are mixed economies, not socialist. Venezuela is becoming a socialist country where private industries are being dissolved ... let us know how that's going for what was once the most prosperous nation in South America.
