Unbelievable! Missing in a flooded cave network, apparently all the boys and their coach have been found alive; getting them out will be the next problem.

Found alive, that's awesome!  I'm praying that they'll all make it out safely.

Getting them out won’t be easy.

Sadly, one of the rescue divers died today. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44734385

Great news! Four of the twelve boys have been extracted from that cave so far. Hopefully the other eight boys and their soccer coach will make it out later today.

What makes this even more incredible is that the boys have to be underwater for a little over a half mile. They are not trained divers and some don't even know how to swim. The guys who are escorting them underwater are amazing.

The total is now up to eight boys saved. Four more to go and their soccer coach.

That’s amazing. I heard that there’s a section so narrow that they have to take the tanks off to get through. That is balls. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve had to medicate the kids a little to prevent panic attacks. They’re probably giving them a little Ativan benzo for the anxiety. That’s what ER docs often give people to mellow out while they do a scary procedure.

But do you give an anti-anxiety to someone who's never used SCUBA gear?

Could work but it's a big risk.

Yeah if the kid is freaking out and might panic and fight the divers half way through.   I wouldn’t give them too much. That wouldn’t affect breathing or cause them to get sleepy. It could help their breathing if they were relaxed a little. They have 17 divers at set distances apart and are probably using a rope to hold on to and follow.  When a diver gets a kid to the next “station” the next diver moves the kid forward to the next one.  They all are courageous, it would be way scary. They probably didn’t tell them a diver died. No one has said how it happened and I’m really curious to know.

Yes, they are using a guide rope system. The diver (Saman Kunan) died from asphyxiation. He ran out of oxygen while replacing other air tanks along the route for future missions. It's sad and ironic. He'll be honored with a Thai Royal funeral.

I'm really happy about this rescue. It was a combined effort, several nations working together, including the USA. Great job! It's awesome that they all survived.
